“|Secret escape in Derbyshire.”
Reviewed 20 February 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Just had a week with my partner and our dog in Matchbox Cottage. Perfect hideaay for two but sleeps four.\the cottage is well decorated and the roll top bath a delight. The log burner was quite temperemantal to work despite us being log burner owners.\this was due to a great degree to the generously provided logs being lareg and a bit damp.\\\\\\\after chopping we got on better :)
Having been used to a super king sized bed at ome we found the double a bit small but we were pre-warned of the size so that is our fault. The kitchen had everything we needed and the washer/dryer was a bonus.
Wirksworth is indeed a gem.with small local shops.welcoming pubs, agreat deli.coffee shops and restaurants :).All in all a great break :)

“Lovely house in a great location”
Reviewed 9 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Very nice cottage, well decorated with surprisingly spacious for a small cottage. It is in a fantastic location just a few minutes walk from Wirksworth town centre and all the cafes, shops and restaurants. Scrumdiddlyumptious requires a visit, as done the farmer's market if it is on. Plenty to do in the area for small children - lots of manageable walks up to Bolehill and to the StarDisc, the Heights of Abraham 10 minutes drive away in Matlock, and also the National Tram Museum in Crich which was a great day out.

Matchbox cottage is gorgeous and we did have a lovely few days staying there. Unfortunately our holiday was cut short due to ill health, so I'll just have to come back sometime!!

“Cosy cottage - great base to explore beautiful countryside!”
Reviewed 17 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

A lovely, comfortable, quirky (in a good way) cottage that enabled us to explore the Peak District but come back to proper home comforts at the end of the day. Well equipped if you want to cook etc rather than eat out.
Lovely to have the enclosed back garden - Piper (the dog) enjoyed lying out there as much as we enjoyed sitting out. We were fortunate to have gorgeous weather so were out and about most of the time but did indulge in some relaxing in the evenings. The welcome pack, coffee and biscuits etc are a nice touch.
We did worry about getting locked out at the back as you can only open from inside (visitors are notified of this) - but got into the habit of propping the door open each time we were out there. I would recommend a similar thing with the front door if you sit outside and don't have the door key with you or don't put the door on the latch! My partner got shut out with the dog as the door closed on him - luckily I was only upstairs. These are not complaints just things we became aware of during our stay that may catch someone out if unaware.
The main bedroom was a good size and airy with the window open - although as we had hot weather while we were there, we would recommend a small fan, as it got quite hot when the curtains were closed. We didn't keep the curtains open as there were no nets or blinds to stop anyone seeing in - again not a complaint more of a personal thing for us as we are so used to having our curtains open at home!
Overall we had a lovely, relaxing stay and enjoyed ourselves.

“Cute, very cottagey”
Reviewed 27 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Nice little cottage, cute quirky features with all you need for a weeks stay.
Very picturesque area, quiet village, rather hilly. Close amenities, 5-10 minute drive.
My husband would have liked to have an alarm and was concerned about the patio doors as they weren't that secure
