Really enjoyed our evening at The Red Lion. Great real ale, well kept and delicious freshly made pizza. Nice atmosphere with a woddburning stove and plenty of comfy places to sit.

I don't know where the chap comes from who said this place was vastly improved ?

The place hasn't changed regarding the waiting time to get served, still massively understaffed, often one person serving at a very long bar taking food orders, leaving long queues for people who just want a drink. I waited today till eventually I and another couple waiting just gave up and left. This isn't a one off, this happens most days.

I suppose as it's cheap, you get what you pay for, but come on Weatherspoons, it doesn't have to be this bad, and can be easily fixed ?

We're checking out the local restaurants for our new holiday home so are casting a critical eye on the local establishments. The Red Lion was not a disappointment and we'll be pointing our guests in that direction. The stone baked pizzas were freshly made with good quality ingredients. Well worth a visit just for those.
When we visited it was a cold wet March lunch time and there were only a few local characters in the bar. It was warm and cosy with a large log burning stove. Lots of old architectural features reflecting the long history of the place. Friendly and competent bar staff.

Dropped in with friends for lunch, not planned just wanted to grab a bite to eat when passing through Ripley at the weekend. The bar was very busy but managed to find a table. We were recommended to have one of the combo meals but when we went to order found out they had run out of ribs. Decided to go for the scampi, again run out of scampi. In the end settled for steak all round. The meal was very tasty, good value and came with a drink. A bit disappointed that we had to revisit the menu on three occasions in a busy lunchtime bar to get something to eat.

a new feature of this old coaching inn is the addition of a pizza oven. Offering first class pizzas made to individual requirements by the resident italian chef named cosimo. The seafood pizza designed by top barmaid emily was superb. This is a great place to go for an evening meal in welcoming surroundings. For an italian night out get out of your gondola and pay a visit to the red lion.
