“Average Rooms-Fun Atmosphere-Good for Families”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

We spent two nights in the Hoste in Burnham Market at the end of May. We enjoyed our stay and the rooms were acceptable. The rooms were spacious, bathrooms were clean and spacious. Our rooms were on the second floor and it was not easy to transport our luggage to the room. The pub was warm and welcoming. If you are looking for comfortable lodging for a weekend, this will meet your goal.

Delightful boutique hotel with attentive, courteous staff. Good sized room and well appointed bathroom. Well designed layout and has had the benefit of a good designer, inside and out. Comfortable furnishings and lashings of Farrow and Ball. Had a drink with the locals in the bar, a quiet smoke in the garden and then to the restaurant. Seafood Assiette was first rate, substantial and could hardly finish the following course. Recommend this dish( for two) and then a pudding. Very helpful Portuguese head waiter/restaurant manager/somallier and charming waitress who didn't appear to wear a skirt (I didn't mind, nor did anyone else). Breakfast came with a waiter (don't you hate those DIY jobs with vulcanised eggs) and was very good.
Bed was large with proper cotton sheets and a quality duvet (i.e. not pure plastic) so slept well.
In all an extremely good experience. God knows what it cost-the wife paid.

Room Tip: Only slept in the one so don't know

We needed to get away for a day or so, and as neither of us had stayed here before we chose The Hoste. Managed to get one of the last rooms in the Railway as it was a spur of the moment decision.
Lovely room in the Railway not large but comfortable enough, really comfy bed and a nice bathroom with lovely products.
We booked a table in the restaurant for that evening and I was wondering what sort of service we would get after reading some of the reviews.
Not a problem at all, we were seated straight away and lucky enough to have the restaurant manager wait on us. The food was gorgeous and the service superb.
No problem with breakfast the next morning either, in fact I rather stuffed myself as I needed to try everything.
All in all a great stay.

We booked to stay here in early January 2014 as a "mini-moon" break for a few nights after our wedding. In the interest of up-front of full disclosure I should say that we raised our concerns with the management when we left and we genuinely felt they understood our concerns and responded appropriately.
That said, I think it is important to note that while the website mentions that there are spa treatments and a jacuzzi available, this is quite an overstatement. The "spa" is really just a small beauty salon and the hot-tub is charged at £6 per person per half hour - thus it is not just part of the hotel in which you can relax and rejuvenate, as the website would suggest - but is a service you can pay to use, if it is not fully booked. It is a nice hotel and the food is lovely, but if you are looking for a luxury experience with great attention to detail I cannot be sure you will get it here.

Room Tip: Note the walls are quite thin so you can hear your neighbours

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review about your recent stay at The Hoste.
Firstly I would like to apologise that we did not meet the standard expected of The Hoste and we aim to provide fantastic service and quality to all our guests. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to speak with yourself during your stay to allow us to respond appropriately.
Our Beauty Spa has its own six-seater hot tub, sun loungers and garden, offers a quiet environment for residents and non-residents alike to relax and rejuvenate. The Hoste has doubled in size over the last two years and we receive positive feedback about our Beauty Spa. We are sorry to read that this was not what you expected.
We do hope we get the opportunity to welcome you back soon.

We have just returned from another luxurious weekend at The Hoste, where we were greeted by the charming Jade and Jane on reception. The entire staff always acknowledged us with a smile and were incredibly enthusiastic and couldn't do enough for you. Our room oozed class and the bed so comfortable it was hard to get up, but the thought of the wonderful breakfast that awaited us helped! The food was delicious and we ate both nights in the restaurant and had friends join us who were equally impressed with the atmosphere and menu. James the Manager seemed to be on hand during our entire stay from seating us at breakfast to chatting to us after our evening meal. We thoroughly enjoyed the Spa Jacuzzi too and after sitting in the beautiful walled garden in the sunshine have returned home incredibly refreshed and looking forward to our next visit. Well done to all the staff and thank you.

We took some friends to The Hoste on Saturday. They hadn't been before. None of us will be going again. We sat down at 8pm and finally finished at 11. Not because it was a relaxing meal that we wanted to go one forever, but because it took that long to get something to eat. It took 45 minutes for our starter to arrive and the wine didn't come until we had finished the starter, even though it was a bottle of warm white wine we drank it rather than wait for another one. The scallop and black pudding starter was made up of about 4 tiny pieces of scallop and slithers of black pudding - the whole thing totalling 3-4 mouthfuls. The halibut was tiny, overcooked and dry and sat sadly on a congealed dollop of squid ink pasta. One of our guests ordered the lemon sole and that is exactly what she got - a whole overcooked, brown fish on a bare plate. Somewhere underneath it was a bit of wilted dark green spinach - at least we think that is what it was, it was so long since we ordered we couldn't remember exactly what we were supposed to get. Whatever it was it wasn't visible until she had finished. We skipped desserts and I ordered a fresh mint tea. How can you get mint and hot water wrong? Perhaps by taking the mint from the selection of herbs buried under the fish? Or from using fishy hands to put the mint in the pot? However it was done, it was very effective, fishy mint tea is not much of a digestive at the end of a bad meal. After settling a bill approaching £200 we had a bowl of cereal when we got home. I am only giving a star for the Cromer crab which wasn't spectacular but was inoffensive. The staff were very cheerful and polite which is just as well when you have to ask for everything twice. This place used to be much better than this and if it wasn't for dog owners who need somewhere to go with their four legged friends, I think there would be a lot more empty tables.

Thank you for writing such a comprehensive report following your recent visit with us. We really do want our guests to have an enjoyable time with us and it was disappointing to learn that you found the food at dinner to be bland, particularly as so much of our produce is locally home grown and therefore should be full of flavour. Your delays in your food arriving at your table was unfortunate and hope you can understand that we pride ourselves on good quality produce and great service, on this particular occasion we haven’t. The delay in your food was due to the high volume of diners we were catering for and as we always cook to order, sometimes this can cause a delay but in your case it was too long. We apologise for the delays you experienced and can assure you that this is not the usual standard we pride ourselves on. I am particularly pleased that you found the staff to be cheerful and polite. We provide fresh mint tea and I can assure you that the mint we use is not stored near any fish! We do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back to The Hoste in the future.
