“Fantastic evening”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

What an amazing place! We went for a large family meal for 12; we sat in the conservatory overlooking the beautiful scenery of the Norfolk coast. The staff were fantastically attentive and always on hand when we needed. The food was absolutely first rate, you would not get better at a top London restaurant. The wine list was good and not over-priced. I had the oysters starter - they were without doubt THE BEST OYSTERS I'VE EVER HAD - perfectly fresh, apparently picked from the marshy seashore at the bottom of the garden. The fish main course was expertly done, and the puddings excellent! The only criticism around the table was that the chocolate mousse had rather too much alcohol in it. Not everyone's idea of a criticism! We will definitely be going back, the White Horse is excellent.

This was our second visit here and we were not disappointed.

We just had sandwiches and chips but it was all delicious. We had our daughter with us and couldn't see a children's menu but to be fair we didn't ask for one but they do tapas and the haddock and cheese pasty was perfect for our two year old who wolfed it down.

Daughter and husband had ice cream for pudding and that was a little expensive for what they got but otherwise the food is lovely and good value.

We sat inside this time and it was nice but got very busy. The first time we went we sat outside at the back and enjoyed views over the salt marshes. Would recommend a visit.

We limited ourselves to the bar menu and found the seafood platter really excellent. Good, friendly service (and free wi-fi access). No direct experience of the accommodation but some rooms have stunning views to the sea.

The existing reviews of this hotel are accurate but I must add that we stayed in the 'Room at the Top' which is excellent in all respects, so I cannot comment on other rooms. Fabulous location and very friendly staff, just a few points to be wary of. Firstly, breakfast is not served until 8.30am and this seems to be too late for many guests as on both days we stayed, there was a rush at exactly 8.30am. Secondly, in the 'summer' months, when there is no rate that includes dinner, it can become expensive if you eat in every night. Thirdly, the menu is static other than, maybe, a change in one of the dishes on the 'specials' menu - another reason not to eat in every night - which, to me, seems self defeating on the part of the hotel. Offer a dinner, bed and breakfast rate with a changing menu, start breakfast at 7.45am and they would then be difficult to fault.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, go for the room at the top.

We recently had a 2 night break at The white Horse not being a dog lover I was apprehensive there was no need our room was very clean spacious and suited the setting,
The young staff were outstanding they worked non stop and nothing was to much trouble and they created a great atmosphere making us feel like we were wanted.
The food was 1st class the team in the kitchen must have worked very hard to send out food to the standard and deserve recognition, and it was served on time and "Hot"
"The Gardener" a great local and lots of local information and using his words "keeps things tidy" typical of all the staff "unassuming"
In my opinion this hotel is perfect for a break on the North Norfolk coast.

Thank you all Alan

Most of my reviews tend to be good because my wife and I do extensive research before travelling / visiting restaurants,. Thanks here to, inter-alia, tripadvisor. This hotel is in a great location overlooking the sea - which is very important when visiting this area. You can simply walk out of the rear of the hotel and immediately commence a bracing walk in a picturesque environment.. You will find other hotels etc in the area that simply overlook car parks and roads. Great views from our (lovely) room. and the restaurant / conservatory. One point to note was the "Hypnos" bed. These are simply the most comfortable beds in the World and added to the comfort in this quiet and serene spot.. Food was simply sensational. The ambience is very pleasing and staff were always helpful and friendly.Thoroughly recommended.
