This is a very attractive building in a lovely location at the heart of town. It retains all the appeal of the classic coaching inn serving the needs of folk travelling through town, just as it has done for hundreds of years.
Of course, these days the menu has more to offer and is aimed at those wanting to enjoy a meal in a relaxed environment. Don’t expect anything posh. This is a sausage and mash, fish and chips, pie and peas type of establishment. A couple of veggie options available too.
The decor is very much in keeping with the age of the building and looks very tidy. However, the real appeal is the vast courtyard at the back. It is a lovely place to enjoy a real ale with your dinner and is informal enough to bring children to, particularly as prices are reasonable. It is reassuring that this building is still meeting the needs of the masses, even in these changing times.
