The Poplars is stunning inside and out, the furnishings are tasteful, modern and totally unlike the outdated, unattractive furniture I had been used to in the past..the complimentary toiletries were expensive and lovely touches such as decent bottled water in our room were a joy..the bed was one of the most comfy and clean I have ever slept on in many years of travelling..the breakfast was tasty (although my partner would have liked more...you dont get the usual "pile em high" full English at the Poplars) . The landlady is not like the old B and B landladies of yore that I recall from childhood..a very well spoken lady who appeared at times slightly scary...maybe shes not used to conversing with Geordies(we can be a tad expansive when chatting)..but she runs a tight ship and maybe its not an easy venture to be the matriach of such a handsome house..all in all we cant complain at all...a lovely lovely place..

Welcoming bed and breakfast accommodation with excellent breakfast. Easy access to Thirsk railway station if travelling by rail. Although located close to main road in urban environment it was quiet and peaceful at night.

Of the 8 hotels and guest houses we stayed at during our 17 day tour of England, this was our favorite! Our hostess (Amanda) was friendly and very helpful... she greeted us with tea and nut bread upon our arrival and made sure we were happy with our accommodations.

Our guest rooms were all en-suite, spacious, fully equipped, very clean and well maintained. We were allowed to use the living room to get together with our traveling companions. A full English breakfast is included in the room tarriff... Amanda prepared the best full English breakfast that we ate during our tour of England!!!

The scenery around and near the Poplars is spectacular. We enjoyed a visit to nearby Thirsk (James Herriott Museum) and a wonderful day driving through the scenic Yorkshire Dales.

The Poplars has our highest recommendation!

This was a wonderful find on the internet. We were visiting family in the area and travelling with a small child (never the most relaxing). Amanda made us most welcome and provided a room with a small adjacent conservatory where we could sit once our baby had gone to bed. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt very comfortable.

Overall an excellent stay and we would return without hesitation.
