I contacted the proprietors, Kathryn and Steve Collington, of The Gallery by e-mail with inquiries, which were met with speedy ,courteous answers. I discovered that the location was very central to driving in the countryside of the Yorkshire Dales.
I have an interest in the books by James Herriot, "All Creatures Great and Small", and The Gallery in Thirsk, is right across the street from the veterinary surgery/museum. The location could not have been better for that attraction.
The Gallery B&B, is located just off the main square of the charming village of Thirsk. Many places are walkable and we were able to park our car nearby.
Kathryn answered questions prior to our arrival, which helped in planning our trip, that included other stops as well. We did not have a cell phone with us, so we were able to keep in touch with her, by e-mail. As our visit to Thirsk grew closer, we e-mailed her from our previous hotel. We were able to advise her that we might arrive rather late. She was waiting for us when we arrived, which was very welcoming, especially after having driven about 250 miles that day.
Our room was very pleasant. The ensuite bathroom was large. Coffee and tea preparations with condiments was plentiful. Kathryn checked to see that we had all we needed. She also told us that she had videos if we would care to watch any. She had a very nice selection to choose from.
Her breakfast was delicious and abundant. She and her husband were very friendly and we look forward to visiting again on a future trip. We were there for a short while, but felt as though we left friends.
I highly recommend The Gallery B&B to anyone travelling in northern England in the areas close to the Yorkshire Dales, and York.
