The website picture does not do this hotel justice. The rooms are very modern and well decorated with lots of tea, coffee and biscuits! The staff are really helpful and very polite - especially David. We drank in the bar quite late and they were very welcoming. Breakfast was lovely.

My partner and I stayed here for the night yesterday, after spending the day at elivington race track.

Easy reach of York.

Very friendly greeting from reception (a man local to our home in Doncaster).

The room was clean/plenty of room, bed was comfortable.
The only downside was the really noisy family of Americans next door. Really annoying. In he end, my partner banged on he wall, kids/parents should not be making that much noise at gone 11 at night.
The same in the morning, never known stayed next to anyone more inconsiderate! So perhaps thicker walls required (failing that, a simple 'be aware there are guests wanting to sleep,' sign might help ;)

Breakfast, lovely, quick service friendly waitress (and in peace and quiet as above mentioned Americans weren't down yet!)
Would definitely stay again if passing that way

We (husband and myself) stayed on a Sunday night in March. Greeted by a friendly and attentive young man on reception. Our good sized room with plenty of storage space, was located away from the road with pleasant views of the open countryside. Large comfy bed with crisp clean linen. We ate in the restaurant that evening and all three courses were of a good standard and not too expensive. We were served by the same young lad who greeted us earlier on reception and he did a splendid job! Breakfast was served in the restaurant and it was nicely cooked and served by another equally attentive young man. We had no problems with wi-fi in our room and we had an enjoyable stay. Would return again if in the area as we found it good value for money.

Room Tip: Our room away from the road was quiet and peaceful. We are unable to comment on rooms that are neare...

From the minute we walked through the door at the White Horse Lodge we were made to feel as comfortable as possible. We were initially greeted by David, who was extremely polite and referred to us both as sir and madame, never faultering in his service. We were checked in promptly and taken into the bar area to relax for a few moments whilst David went to check that our room was ready. Luckily it was ready there and then, and David asked us politely if we would be dining with them tonight, on the first night of our stay we decided not to do so.

Thirsk is a short drive away, and so isnt ideal if you are wanting to go out clubbing (No clubs in miles) however for a relaxing break this is excellent.

We woke up in the morning and went for breakfast. Upon being seated we were offered fresh tea or coffee and a choice of a cooked or continental breakfast. My advice: dont be a wuss/dieter, go straight for the cooked breakfast as it is amazing. Fresh local sausage and bacon, fresh tasty eggs, excellent fried bread, tasty mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, and beans. Along with a mountain of perfectly toasted toast.

Having gone out for the day to York Air Museum (a good day out by the way) we returned to the hotel and David offered to book us a table for the evening meal, we accepted. We had a few drinks in the bar, then went to get changed and returned for evening service. The restaurant was disappointingly empty, which is surprising as the food was excellent, and very reasonably priced.

The rooms were comfy, and spotlessly clean. The service was outstanding, you would believe you are in a 5 star hotel with the way staff (David in particular) treat you. We asked for a menu to be delivered to our room and David must have sprinted to our room as I had only just sat down and he was at the door with the menu.

Truly an excellent hotel, and I am 100% certain I will be returning. Every member of staff made you feel extremely welcome, and I was very impressed.

See you soon White Horse Lodge!

Room Tip: Room 1 can be a little noisy

Very nice little hotel if a bit of the beaten track. Check in was fast and friendly and I was shown to my very nice room with everything you would need. Clean comfortable bed, work desk and a nice bathroom with a good shower.

Dinner was very nice, if a little pricey, menu is a bit limited but the food and service were very good.

Breakfast was great but could do with starting earlier that 7-30.

Staff uniformly friendly and wifi good but did not reach to the room, only in public areas.

Would I recommend? Not to business users due to the lack of wifi in the room and the latish breakfast start and for both those reasons I wouldn't stay again but, if you aren't bothered by either, this is a nice little hotel and good value.

Family room was lovely and good size. Welcoming staff. Our children only ones there and were made to feel welcome and not a nuisance. Area lovely. Only downside was menu for dinner very limited no children's choice though they did accommodate us. Bar closed early tho . Breakfast was lovely lots of choice and fresh cooked breakfast. Would happily stay again
