We stayed two nights , the rooms were really modern clean and comfortable, no complaints. The staff were a delight both in the bar and the restaurant. The lady who served breakfast was so cheerful and started our day with a smile and good service.
The roast beef in the restaurant is to be recommended congrats to the chef and kitchen staff for superb meals.

Room Tip: All the rooms were new looking but maybe a quiet room on the back if you are a light sleeper?

The Angel is a high quality place to stay and one I would have no hesitation in returning to. Rooms are modern, clean and spacious. Complimentary tea, coffee and water in the rooms. Large thick bath towels and an excellent shower. Staff were attentive and very helpful and polite. We enjoyed a meal which was of excellent quality and washed down with a nice pint but would love to have been able to sample a pint or two of Black Sheep which given it is a local beer I was disappointed it was not available. Breakfast was very good and plentiful. My only negative comment would be that with the doors to the bars being open due to the warm weather I would like to see staff discouraging smokers from smoking by the door as those inside we're affected and should not have to be. This aside we had a great stay and I would recommend it 100%

We used this hotel as a base to visit the surrounding area - mainly York.
It is about a 35 minute drive back into York which was fine and straight-forward.
The first night we had a double-room for two, the room with the sloping wall.
A very comfortable room (not the biggest) but the quality of the furniture and fittings is very good - everything you would need for a comfortable stay.
In fact, we could have stayed in bed a lot longer - it was that comfortable.
The evening meal in the restaurant was very nice, with a good choice on the menu.
Breakfast was lovely, all freshly cooked (we were one of the first in at 08.00) and breakfast served to you by Catrina is a demonstration of breakfast service at it's best.
The next night (Sunday night) we had a family room for three adults (to accommodate our 23 yr old daughter).
Please note that the restaurant closes at 19.00 on a Sunday and the choice was not quite as good as the Saturday (we all had Sunday roasts).
My daughter had the sofa bed which she said was not that comfortable (Princess & the pea?).
Our bed was a king-size and lovely.
The family room was much bigger and again the furniture and fittings were very good.
The pub gardens are very nice if you have good weather.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Overall a very comfortable and friendly place to stay.

Really great place, a little off the main road but well worth the drive. We had the 'quirky' room with the sloping wall - loved it. High quality modern fittings History goes back to 12 century. Highly recommended. Staff/owner extremely hospitable

We took our children away after visiting Lightwater Valley to this hotel and stayed in the family room which overlooked the lovely garden. The rooms are set away from the main bar area and found the hotel to be very new, modern and very tastefully decorated. Our room had 2 single beds and a pull out double sofa bed which I found slightly uncomfortable and not wide enough for 2 adults to have a good nights sleep on although our children a boy and girl slept like logs! We didn't eat in the hotel in the evening but found the prices a bit pricey and not enough variety for small children. We went down for breakfast at 8.30 and were the only ones there but counted 7 tables with guests dirty plates , toast, cups etc still on them, these were not tidied away despite 5 staff being around us or by the bar at the time. The breakfast was plentiful but the black pudding was hard and overlooked along with the bacon, maybe we were the last ones down for breakfast and got what was left, I don't know but thought it was a bit too crispy. Overall a very modern place with a large car park but a little disappointed with quality and attention at breakfast and the small double bed.
