“A rare gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 November 2013 via mobile

I stayed here for one night Saturday 15 November. Called in advance and couldn't have found a more friendly place from phone to food! My arrival was all hinged around wanting to see the rugby international Eng v NZ and I was over the moon when told they would ensure I was able to guarantee my seat for the game. Nothing disappointed on arrival as I was made to feel extremely welcome by everyone including the friendly customers but also Dylan the wonderful (large) Rhodesian Ridgeback who is the life centre of this lovely local pub. What more could a man ask for than a real cask ale, good food, Sky Sports Rugby, superb spacious room and a hearty breakfast with proper sausages and bacon from the butcher! Room rate for B&B for one was £35.00 so you simply cannot afford to go anywhere else when visiting Thirsk!!!

Stayed November 2013, travelled solo

We recently spent a night here in one of the rooms upstairs. The room was £35 each bed and breakfast therefore we didnt expect too much. We were pleasantly surprised by the room, we had a large room with a double bed and an ensuite with a lovely shower, toilet and sink area. The room came with fresh towels, soaps etc.. and there was a big tv with freeview. Having checked out the room we were slightly peckish so headed downstairs. Instead of headibg into the town we stayed at the lord nelson and ordered 2 of the 10oz rump steak. Cooked to perfection, the steaks arrived at our table with all the trimmings and they couldnt have done more for us. The food was good and the beer wad also good and friendly locals what more could you ask for? Breakfast was also excellent, giving us the choice of what we wanted. SHALL DEFINITELY BE VISITING AGAIN WHEN IN THE AREA.
