We arrived on a cold wet Friday night for an anniversary meal, the barman (turned out to be owner) was very welcoming when we first entered. Having booked a table we were offered drinks and given menus and we sat down in a clean but homely games room and reviewed the menu & specials from a chalk board.
The menu had a good range of typical pub fare and a nice range of restaurant style courses. We chose one starter from the board and one from the menu, and two main courses from the board. The wine list was limited but had sufficient choice and prices that were reasonable.
The food turned out to be very well presented, beautifully cooked, reasonable proportions and we ended up "cleaning our plates". The sweet choice was brought on a chalk board and again was not disappointing at all, great limited range and a nice choice of cheeseboard.
The wines we chose were nice but not exceptional.
The pub had a great balance between welcoming locals who were mainly just drinking, playing dominoes etc., and those diners who were seated at good size tables and well looked after without being fussed.
The whole experience was very good, a pleasant night out, a good meal reasonably priced with a touch of quality! Leaving our car in their car park we ordered a taxi - there was a 2 hr wait...until our host stepped in and offered us a lift - 5 miles back to our home, no charge and though a rain soaked country road.
A brilliant gesture to end a great night out - overall an exceptional experience that we have related to colleagues, family and friends!
