Very good service, excellent ocean views(its right on the waters edge) and well prepared food. Cozy atmosphere and often times they have live music. A very pleasant experience.

My wife, daughter & I ate at the Cove, in Shelter Cove, CA last night. We had 2 fish dinners that were both cooked to perfection. Bacon wrapped Albacore was fresh and pink in the middle, just as requested. The Cajun Snapper was tasty and moist. Our Calamari app. came in less than 10 min. and dinner was ready right on time. The salad, garlic mashed potatoes and clam chowder were all delicious. The service was great. The price was very reasonable. The only weak point was the fries in the kids plate. I have eaten here lots of times over the years. This was probably our best meal and clearly the most prompt service. I really enjoyed the understated but excellent live music with dinner as well. A+.

An impressive 27 wines by the glass, including local. 3 champagnes available too, and numerous bottles of wines. Beers etc too.
Bar at one end of bar. Table seating elsewhere.
Special was red pepper soup but settled for clam chowder...didn't turn up but the special of snapper in coconut, lime and chilli did...with sauteed potatoes, carrots and courgettes.....
Fantastic. Beautiful.... Best taste I've had all on this trip to date and that is saying something as the Ertel Vineyards in Batesville and Swagath in Portland were both pretty good meals!
There were lots of choices including pasta, prawns in the coconut chilli lime sauce, steaks, (Australian?) lobster tail.
Desserts were cheesecakes including lemon drop, chocolate brownie, raspberry sorbet....
What was really funny was that the bikers I had breakfast with, 300 miles up the coast were aso there and said hello! Coincidently arrived at the same place as me!
There was a soloist with guitar, singing....
The views are to the beach.
Serves dinner 5-9pm. Thurs-Sunday.
Lovely experience!

The location and atmosphere is great; the service was just so-so, but the preparation of the fresh fish special was very disappointing. Nothing quite like dry, overcooked fish. We had a much better experience at the Chart House a couple of nights later.

It’s true that dining options are limited in Shelter Cove, but that takes nothing away from the Cove, which is the finest dining spot in town. We’ve been there during a busy summer evening and also off-season. At both times of year we enjoyed the food, the ambiance, and the service.

First, you can’t beat the view. It’s the Lost Coast, up close and personal. The décor is fun and ocean themed, with jellyfish lamps and surfboards hanging from the ceiling. It’s a casual place, but food is upscale “Californian nouvelle.” Since Shelter Cove is well-known for fishing, you can’t go wrong with any of the locally caught fish dishes. We recently had grilled rockfish, cooked absolutely perfectly. A frosty north coast beer (several local beers to select from as well as the usual options) was the perfect compliment. Service is not the best we’ve had, but certainly far from the worst.

Atmosphere is casual, like the rest of Shelter Cove. No need to dress up, but it’s popular so do make a reservation during summer. I usually don’t like hearing singers while I’m eating but for some reason enjoyed the guitarist/singers that we’ve heard there on each of our visits. It’s also a great place to watch the sunset from. Don’t leave town without checking it out.
