“A piece of Heaven....”

We just returned from a 5-night stay at the Spyglass Inn. We thought we were in heaven. We enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing, quiet and perfect stay. Hosts, Richard and Margaret spoiled us. We stayed in the Seascape suite while our friends stayed in the Dolphin suite. The amenities are beyond comparison from the clean, fresh, plush towels to the beautiful Pacific Ocean views. Thank you for making us feel so welcomed. We'll be back.

We only went for two nights, but this has got to be the most relaxing place in the world. Unfortunately, we had to drive in, but it wasn't quite as bad a drive as we thought it would be. We had great weather. I happened to wake up in the middle of the night and look outside at the stars. I never knew there were so many - and shooting stars! The owners are so nice and accommodating and the place is immaculate. The only hard part is getting back to reality:)

Room Tip: the rooms are all good - just depends if you want to be upstairs or downstairs

OK, so why do we go back every 3 months to this place? Because it's got every comfort you could want, and then some.....and we can relax to our heart's content. It's not only a spectacular location on an ocean-front bluff, but has wonderful accommodations and hosts. It's become a home away from home for us. Last weekend, we had a doe and 2 fawns prancing outside our window, followed by a fox in the early evening. The addition of Adirondack chairs made sitting outside as comfy as could be. Fellow patrons often get together for happy hour in the afternoon, enjoying the breeze outdoors and watching pelicans, cormorants and seagulls flying about. Some suggestions: Buy groceries in Redway at Stop N Shop on your way in. The local grocery in SC has a lot of necessary items, but they lack fresh meats, liquor and specialty items. They do have a nice selection of wines though! If you're flying in to the local airstrip, be sure to check fog conditions before going. Bring a book, games, hobbies. You'll be tempted to do a lot of "nothing" while you're there. I usually count the days before we're headed back, and right now I'm down to 90-something. ;-) The suites are so well equipped, you won't need anything for cooking in the full sized kitchen. The owners Richard and Margaret couldn't be any nicer, and we look forward to visiting with them on each trip. You will NOT be disappointed spending several nights there......we never are. It's our go-to place for total relaxation.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have glass wall balconies with great views of ocean. Bottom floor rooms have patios...

This is our second time flying into Shelter Cove and staying at the Spyglass Inn at Shelter Cove. The scenery is breathtaking. The Spyglass Inn is simply the nicest, warmest, cleanest, best equipped, best managed, and overall BEST choice if you are visiting Shelter Cove. We check the live cameras (http://northcoastaviation.com/shelter_cove/shelter_cove_southwest.htm) for a live view of the weather at the airport before takeoff in our plane. Pilots beware of fog, we've had to circle for quite some time for a clearing and diverted to Garberville for fuel. Once landed, park on the north end of the field. Richard and Margaret, the Inn Keepers, will be down to help you unload your plane and transport you to your suite. Your plane will be visible from your room. I can't say enough great things about Richard and Margaret, simply amazing, gracious, and warm hosts. Richard and Margaret will make any reservation you need, whether its dinner, fishing, golf, you name it, they will make sure you get the best of what Shelter Cove has to offer. I should mention too that in my opinion the Spyglass Inn has the best views of the coastline. You will certainly hear and feel the waves crashing on the coastline just a few short yards away. If you like wildlife, we saw many deer including some nice bucks and a fox just feet off our balcony. The Spyglass is magical and owned by two of the nicest people on earth.

My husband and I spent July 3-4 at Spyglass. After reading all of the reviews on TripAdvisor I was beginning to think it was too good to be true! But I was so wrong! This was our first trip to California and our first time to see the Pacific. What a wonderful way to introduce ourselves. The weather was perfect...warm sun with cool breezes from the ocean. An ideal place to practice il dolce far niente…the sweetness of doing nothing. Staying with Richard and Margaret was like visiting caring relatives...we were hoping they would want to adopt us so we would never have to leave..lol. We will definitely be back as soon as we can.

We spent two nights in late June and greatly enjoyed the experience! Richard and Margaret were perfect hosts...very helpful and easy to talk to. They even made our dinner reservations for us and got us a window seat at a delightful restaurant overlooking the ocean.Their advice to buy groceries in Redway before the last 21 mile drive to Shelter Cove was very helpful. The Inn was luxurious, spotlessly clean, and inviting. The bed was very comfortable. We slept like proverbial babies. While it was foggy and rainy most of out time there, it didn't matter. The ambiance was wonderful and very relaxing! Having our in-room Jacuzzi tub overlooking the cove, a gas fireplace and a full kitchen made us feel so much at home, we didn't want to leave. We highly recommend staying at the Spyglass Inn.

Room Tip: All of the suites have excellent views and are equally elegant and comfortable

If we can not stay at the Spyglass Inn, then we don't go to Shelter Cove. Why? For many reasons: The location is perfect. It is right on the ocean. Sitting on the spacious private deck is like being in the ocean. The layout of the apartment (it's more than a room) is great for long or short stays. Don't expect daily room service but if you want the bed or towels changed, they will be happy to do so. The place is really clean and retains a new feeling. And, the innkeepers, Richard and Margaret have a sixth sense about when to offer help and when to stay in the background.
Having private kitchen facilities is important in Shelter Cove because the restaurant scene is minimal. There is a good (and clean) gas grill for the guest's use also. We usually stop at the grocery store in Redway and stock up on food for our visit - then love the challenging drive into the Cove to be rewarded with beautiful ocean scenery and the magnificent Spyglass Inn. We have stayed here several times recently. It just gets better each time.

Room Tip: Every room is good.
