This is a 1920s hotel with few modern updates: it is rather tired but still has some charm and is well located (despite being opposite the train line). We stayed in a 'double with ensuite' (an exaggeration for the separate shower and toilet), which was in need of brightening but all was clean and the bed comfy. The staff were friendly and the food was good: our steak was generous and perfectly cooked to medium rare; the salad fresh; the chips were great! Full breakfast was hearty and good - even if the cook only does eggs fried! What more could you ask for? Well, knowing what I was booking, I would have given it four stars, but the cost at $190 for two was a bit steep and more than we expected. Don't book online - phone for the best price.

Stayed whilst in transit from Melbourne to Brisbane. Room was great- lovely linen on the bed and for $60 I could not complain.

I would probably not advise staying here in summer as the room had no cooling or even a fan and the only window had no screen- not good for either bugs or security! It had been a warm ish day when I stayed and the room was quite stuffy. There is a wall heater for winter.

The shared bathroom facilities are very dated and old, but are clean and I could imagine that they would be frrrrrreeazing in winter.

I do not recommend buying either the continental ($10) or cooked ($20) breakfasts- both ae exceedingly expensive and crap quality for what you get.

The hotel is also located opposite the railway line, so ask for a room facing the other way.

Staff were nice, except for the woman who greeted me on arrival- un-friendly and failed to tell me about anything such as where the mornings breakfast was served or parking, bathroom or even where my room was- (it's a big place too).

Hate to write a negative review so will start on the positives;
Bed was quite comfortable & had electric blankets (its freezing!!)
Staff were polite
They had a microwave we could use in a shared kitchen area.
Convenient location for the wedding we attended.
That's it I'm afraid ........
Negatives;
we stayed overnight on a saturday (3 adults, 1 infant) in a basin only room as everything else in the area was booked out. Our room (#33) was above a disco but actually felt like we were trying to sleep on the dance floor!!! (we found this out on our rtn from the wedding with a tired baby) The music was sooooo loud & the base vibrations even louder!! Very disappointed to say the least! They knew we we were travelling with an infant & any consideration for an early bedtime schedule was clearly overlooked!
We paid $50 pp which I think is very pricey considering the conditions are worse than the worst backpackers I've stayed in - ever!!
Shared bathrooms are a disgrace! It's literally like using a public toilet you'd find in a park - dirty, very cold & so outdated!
With the money they charge you'd think they could at least put shower heads on showers, fix broken tiles, re paint. Anything would be an improvement!
Breakfast was an extra $20pp. Pretty average spread. Just your basic buffet style with eggs, bacon, hash browns, sausages, mushrooms, toast & a few cereal options.
Basic pot of coffee & tea for self service.

All in all it WOULD have been an awesome place in the 1920's!

Service was very good. However the food was appalling. Of the 18 guests at our table most did not eat their xmas in july dinner. Frozen veg was uncooked, mash potato was so salty it was inedible. We were also overcharged for the children, supposed to be $10 but was charged same as adults. They need a new cook and should use fresh veg n herbs, not canned or frozen.

After a very nice meal, well cooked, chased down with a bottle of good local merlot, we retired to the main bar, where we remained until closing.

This is a friendly, relaxing place to spend an evening.

Downsides? I was unimpressed by the staff member who glossed over the dangerous chair I spotted another patron sitting on.

Our group of 10 chose to stay here again after a most enjoyable visit last year. Nothing much has changed and that's great! The rooms are not 5 star but are very comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. We ate dinner in the restaurant on Friday and Saturday nights - the food was great with plenty of choices. The Bundanoon Hotel was a great base with plenty of comfortable spaces for a group such as ours to sit and chat after a day spent exploring the area.

Room Tip: Room 8 is more spacious than others, though may be noisier as opposite the railway line.

While staying in a nearby guesthouse, we visited the Bundanoon Hotel for drinks and dinner. The food was very good, although I would have liked to see a bit more variety in the entree department. We had some very tasty crumbed lamb cutlets for an entree (served with a surprisingly generous rocket salad) and my main course steak was perfectly cooked. The dessert menu looked fairly ordinary except for the inclusion of a quince pie, which I had to try. It was a massive slice which I couldn't finish, with a lovely pastry and interesting filling.

The hotel is old and could certainly use a bit of TLC, but we found the locals very welcoming and stayed to have a few drinks in the main bar. If you overlook the dingy paintwork it's a fun place to spend a few hours on a Saturday evening.
