On a cool winter's day and with a healthy appetite, we were lucky enough to stumble upon this charming and cosy retreat with its open fire, polished floors and welcoming staff. We simply couldn't fault our lunch here ... except perhaps that we couldn't try more things on the menu, as it all looked sooooo good and the choosing was difficult! The ambience is just perfect - elegantly understated but very fine, and the service is perfect - thank you Marie, for making our lunch so special. The food is amazing - fabulous flavours and stunningly presented. The seared kangaroo with black quinoa pilaf was a blaze of unusual colours and tempting tastes; the lamb loin married brilliantly with its accompanying creamed lentils and kipfler potatoes. We enjoyed an excellent local wine by the glass and ended with good coffee ... regretfully we just couldn't manage any of the delicious sounding desserts this time. Ours was the Autumn 2014 menu but I'm confident it would be exceptional dining all year round, year after year, no matter what you choose. The prices are what you would expect for such an outstanding, high-end experience but they represent good value nonetheless. We will definitely go back.

Fantastic food and service. We dined here on Saturday with our 2yr old daughter and my wife's parents. For a fine dining restaurant they were very accommodating of our daughter. The kids menu was top class and Sophie enjoyed the chicken breast and especially the roast potatoes. I had pork belly with scallops for entree which was mouth wateringly good, followed by duck with parsnip purée which was delicious. The extensive wine list had lots of local wines.

Service was amazing. Food was close to the best I have ever tasted. Try the spatchcock. Good stone list. Reasonable prices given the quality of food. Do yourself a favor.

We loved this restaurant 12 months ago and love it even more after last nights meal.

Mercato is one classy restaurant. We were 4 adults and 3 kids - aged 11,12 & 15. We were made to feel welcomed immediately. They happily made mocktails for the kids - an off menu request.

Entrees were superb - the prawn and crab gumbo proved the most popular. It had a power of flavour - with just enough spice to taste without overpowering.

The quail was delicately flavoured and moist.

For main we ordered the angus fillet cooked perfectly to med rare with wasabi mash and Kale - my daughter and nephew loved it. I had the Kangaroo fillets with black quinoa - this meal was all about strong gamey flavour. It was sensational.

The spatchcock duo got a bit of a mixed reaction with 2 people enjoying it and 1 not so much.

Desserts were good with the dark Belgium chocolate mousse cake getting the points as the best dessert... The earl grey ice cream that accompanied it was interesting. The kids had 3 scoops of sorbet - all made on the premises. The flavours were Rockmelon, Watermelon and Wine cherry... Kids loved it. The other dessert ordered was the afforgato expresso - the homemade vanilla bean ice cream set it off brilliantly.

The only annoying thing was the $8 surcharge per person because it was a public holiday..

This restaurant sits comfortably in the upper echelons of the Victorian restaurant scene.
