In the main street of Atherton there's a funny looking shop called the Crystal Caves - just like any other shopfront but when you get inside they have an amazing range of jewellery, geodes, carvings, & gemstones & crystals of every kind... THEN... as you head to the back of the store you'll pay a small entrance fee, be given a helmet & enter the man-made caves descending under the shop - all I can say is WOW!!! They have done the most amazing job of reproducing a very realistic environment & setting in all the magnificent displays - a MUST SEE! :)

We wondered into this place without really knowing what to expect and after almost not paying the $30 to go in to the 'caves', we shrugged our shoulders and gave it a chance. I am really glad we did. The collection of crystals/precious stones is fantastic and there are some really interesting facts to be found. It's also very much science focused not hippy crystal nonsense, so that was great. Highly recommend if you are in the area and also the jewelery is beautiful!

Thanks for your kinds word, and glad to hear that you were pleasantly surprised!
We do find it hard to explain to people just how extensive The Crystal Caves really is, or the quality of the world class specimens on display down there.
Glad you decided to take the plunge, and thanks so much for taking the time to tell the world!

Really different than usual visits for backpackers. I was like a kid!
The Emperess of Uruguay is really worth it!

A little bit expensive though.

We had a great time exploring the Crystal Caves. Took some beautiful photos and amazed to see such a collection of crystals from around the world. Being set in a cave it takes you into the world they came from. Michael Hopkinson was a wealth of knowledge and the obvious love of his job shines through. I cracked a Geode and was the first person ever to see what was inside. Also picked up some unique gifts for friends. We will be back!

Found in the main street of Atherton we thought that the Crystal Caves were great. The main, and free to browse area, has an excellent range and number of displays of a huge range of crystal and other minerals. Also, most items are for sale at reasonable prices.

The Crystal Caves staff are extremely friendly and helpful and while we did not go into the paid exhibit visitors exciting the display were saying that it was excellent.
