“Well appointed, clean, nicely located - with good staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2013

We stayed here for a week in late January 2013.
This was not our original choice of accomodation on Bribie island, however we had to vacate the original booked accomodation due to a number of issues (that we will report on separately).
From the outset the staff at the Gums could not have been more helpful when we required immediate accomodation, being friendly, sympathetic & helpful.
We had a unit towards the front of what is a gated development on the first floor & overlooking Pumistone passage. The units are clean & well appointed & we believe all individually decorated to the owners tastes. Ours had Balcony, lounge, kitchen, 2 bedrooms (1 with en-suite) & bathroom/utility room. There was also a separate garage provided for use by this unit. Everything you would need was included in the apartment & security appeared good.
The pool is a lagoon style one and the only slight downside was the lack of seating or loungers around this. There is also a Tennis court on site & the grounds are nicely maintained.
Its a short stroll across to a narrow beach from which you can walk for miles, but you would need transport to reach the primary shops on Bribie or to travel further afield.

All in all, The Gums Anchorage is recommended if staying on Bribie, we would definately use again, and the Management staff are excellent.

Room Tip: Choose one overlooking the passage

We spent a week at The Gums Anchorage in a 3 bedroom, 3rd floor apartment in January 2013. We are a family of 5 so were really pleased at the size of the unit, more than suitable for a weeks stay. The unit was really well equipped & I can't think of anything that we needed that wasn't there already .. with the possible exception of an electric frying pan but as we had a BBQ this wasn't an issue.

It seems that all the units are individually decorated by the respective owners & despite the ensuite bathroom possibly being original (we too had a bidet), the kids bathroom was beautiful & the kitchen was lovely. Furnishings & decor were well matched and current. From my reading of the units compendium, the complex is celebrating its 30th birthday this year & whilst it does look a little dated on the outside we loved it & its age is the only reason I didn't give it an excellent rating. For me it was also excellent value for money for a family holiday.

We chose an un-airconditioned unit because it had a BBQ on the balcony & despite being there during a really hot period, the sea breezes kept us reasonably cool. We also spent a lot of time in the pool which could be used up until 9pm so we often had a late evening dip.

Loved the fact that there was a path across the road so you could go for a bike ride along the whole esplanade (5km??). Also, a quick stroll to the local coffee shop & a little bit longer to the pub for dinner made it very handy. It was maybe 2 blocks for my hubby to get the boat to the boat ramp which was a big selling point for him.

We will certainly be back to The Gums again but hopefully for 2 weeks next time.

Thanks to Joy & Tony, the onsite managers for a great holiday.

Room Tip: We were in unit 23 which was towards the back of the complex so probably a little quieter than the o...

We spent a week here in March 2012 and enjoyed our stay.

1. Location: Gums is located in a peaceful spot on Bribie overlooking the passage. However, it is definitely a drive from all amenities. We had a car so could not comment on public transport options. It is a short drive to shops, restaurants, beaches and other amenities.

2. Rooms: We rented a two bedroom/two bathroom ground floor unit. It was clean and comfortable. The units are older style (including a bidet in the bathroom!) and seem to have different layouts/furnishings depending on the owners. Supplies are very basic and our unit had no DVDs or books or similar. It was well equipped with plates/glasses etc although the other unit we spent time in was not.

3. Facilities: We swam every day in the pool and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a 'lagoon entry' which is well suited to young children. The beach across from the resort is not the best on Bribie but nice to walk on at low tide.

4. Service: The staff were very friendly and happy to help. We did not see much of them during our stay other than to collect more dishwashing liquid etc but they were very pleasant.

I would recommend Gums Anchorage as we enjoyed our stay. It is very suitable for young families. There are ground floor flats which are WC accessible but call before booking as some of the entrances and garages would make this challenging. The pool is older style but well maintained and great for small kids.

Older style property, but exceptionally clean and well maintained. We found reception attentive and helpful. The starting provisions are very basic, e.g. tea, coffee, toiletries, but adequate. The unit in which we stayed was comfortably furnished. It may have been simply bad timing but the internal temperature was unbearably hot. The unit was not air conditioned and even with maximum ventilation with all available windows and doors open it was very unpleasant. To be fair, it was much more acceptable on the second night of our stay when the wind was brisk and cooler. Nothing is more than a few minutes away on Bribie Island by car but the property is not within practical walking distance from shops, restaurants, etc. It is not cheap accommodation but represents pretty good value - more likely for a young family.

Stayed a week at the Gums with my daughter ; probably best if you had a vehicle to get around, although we got there easily enough by taking a train from Airport to Eagle junction and then changing to train to Caboolture - from there a bus to Briebie : total cost for us both around $40 and took about an hour.
The Gums is on the quiet estuary side of bribie, just over the bridge. Large shopping mall with all thats needed about a 15 minute walk - while magnificent surf beach at Woorim, other side of the island, about a 15 minute drive.
We drove to Caloundra one day, about an hour - also to glass house mountains and the Steve Irwin Zoo, only 30 mins from the resort and well worth visiting. We stayed with a friend/resident in a two bedroom aprtment - very spacious, lovely surroundings, pool tennis court etc. Birds wake you up around 5;30 - but very pleasantly ! Rate it a great place to stop particularly with children provided you have a vehicle and also a good base to explore that region of queensland. Tony and Joy the managers most helpful and friendly, thanks to them and their family for making us so welcome.

Thanks so much for the lovely feedback. Our business is to make our guests feel welcome while enjoying the facilities and surrounds. Good point about the car. Lots of interstate or international visitors hire cars either at the airport or on the Island. There are also airport transport services to and from the island daily. (We can help with all that).
You are right, there is a lot to do and see at Bribie Island and surrounds. We hope you can come and stay again.
