Owner description: Ocean Safari offers an exhilarating ride to snorkel the pristine untouched Great Barrier Reef off the Daintree Coast at Cape Tribulation. This half day eco tour visits two different snorkel destinations, each with an extraordinary array of marine life and coral species. The tour begins at Cape Tribulation beach where guests board the vessel bound for the tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef. After an exhilarating fast ride of approximately 25 minutes guests are ready to snorkel two fabulous locations at Mackay and Undine Reefs. On most days the rainforest can be seen along the mainland beach whilst snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, home to an abundance of marine life as well as beautiful hard and soft corals. The Ocean Safari vessel takes a maximum of 25 passengers allowing guests to experience tropical paradise and the pleasure of a small group. The vessel is based on the original design of a rescue craft and is a rigid inflatable boat driven by 700hp engines. The experienced Skipper and Eco Host ensure the trip is filled with fun and appreciation of the Great Barrier Reef and the coastal rainforest of the Daintree, two world heritage areas side by side. Magical memories like these sometimes only happen once in a lifetime. The Ocean Safari check in office is at the Turtle Rock Cafe and Safari Lodge, Cape Tribulation Road and a courtesy bus pick up from Cape Tribulation accommodation is included. Ocean Safari has Advanced Eco Accreditation.

What an experience! the jet boating experience was a highlight (especially if you have kids...all the kids on board had the time of their life)...I would definitely recommend getting a spot on the edge of the boat, especially for the thrill seekers out there! The staff were extremely knowledgeable and it was awesome to see a set of people who show so much care and passion for what they do! The only thing I would say is that it does get very cold so make sure you take plenty of warm clothes for the journey back to land!!! I have visited the reef on three separate occasions now and I would definitely recommend this one for people who generally suffer travel sickness, the speedy journey alongside the proximity of the reef to mainland avoids the swells and boat motion you would typically experience on other tours!! amazing day, absolute bargain of a price as well!!!!!!

My daughter and I got very very lucky and went with ocean safari on the one fine day they'd had for weeks. The whole operation was great, the staff very knowledgeable, careful, friendly, the boat was spotless, the skipper clearly loves his job, the reef and cape trib. The snorkelling was superb, Crystal clear water and coral unscathed by tourists.

Only problem for me is I am quite a skinny person and I was absolutely freezing! I had a wetsuit but probably should have had thermals on too, I couldn't do the second site because I was still shaking with cold from the first one despite being given a coat to wear by the very helpful skipper.

Might be good if thermals were actively offered, not just wetsuits, for those who feel the cold.

Otherwise, superb.

We were looking for a secluded stint on the infamous Great Barrier Reef on a short visit to Oz from Scotland - though I am originally from Oz, was pressed for time, and we found this boat trip under recommendation from a fb friend on here- beautiful, utterly stunning snorkel adventure: coupled with informative, enthusiastic and friendly staff, we were lucky enough to have sun at this time of year, not rain, and a visit on a reef's 'wall' - boat drifting while you snorkel along a cliff edge beneath...saw so many of nature's Incredibles– the tincy, wincy finding Nemo fish, parrot fish, turtles swimming so close, so many varieties of coral, large clams, wonderful guides and wetsuits provided for a small fee. ($8). Just breath-taking. the birds clustering on a circle of sand in the middle of the ocean. The guys don't need to do any hard sell on this one, though they are talking the talk so that you remember what a rarity this reef is (the only heritage listed boat to go rainforest heritage listing to reef heritage listing etc) - and to let it grow - they know their stuff. Was so glad we made the effort to drive up further north than Airliee beach and take the ferry to Cape Trib. If i had more time I would do the jungle safari...you can grab a brilliant coffee from Turtle Cafe prior. Do it.

We wanted a quick trip out to the reef without lots of people and were interested in the snorkeling rather than the long lunch cruise deal. We got exactly that and more. Extremely friendly and accommodating from reception (she is exceptional behind the counter) to drop off.

I am short of stature and really appreciated having steps on the boat. It is fast boat but after travelling on these type of boats before the skipper was adept and it was very comfortable ride. We were at beautiful Mackay reef within 30 mins and began snorkeling. Time was taken to explain mask etc, which was helpful because i have snorkeled previously where it kept leaking and it can ruin the experience. No leaking or misting happened.

The fish were plentiful and interesting, some saw octopus and reef sharks, we saw not 1 but 2 turtles and i swam alone with her for 5 minutes the highlight of the trip for me. But just being there with a small group noone else around in a beautiful environment was exceptional.

Thank you. Cant recommend this trip highly enough.

I had already been on a long snorkeling trip, but I wanted to see the northern reef. This was great for me! Way better than the stuff on offer in Port Douglass & Cairns and small - it's the only boat that goes out to that part of the reef so it's quite untouched, and you can get crazy close to some amazing creatures. Just so cool. Definitely worth hopping in if you've already been elsewhere further south on the reef. The fish are bigger and the whole thing just feels much wilder. The skipper/captain whatever was salty and great. Forget his name. He was cool though. The younger guy (who was like some insanely handsome mix between heath ledger and mel gibson) was kind of arrogant and obnoxious I must say. Clearly thinks he's way too cool to be there. The good news is, you're not really talking to anyone most of the time so whatever. You get a good amount of time in the water (2 hrs maybe? almost that? anymore and you'd be too cold) but little downtime on the boat. It feels very zip in zip out, but was well worth it anyway. Just don't expect a relaxing cruise.
