“A relaxing retreat in beautiful Cape Trib”
Reviewed 3 November 2013 via mobile

We staye two nights at Ferntree resort. As some of the other reviews have said, the place is being revived by the new owners - its a work in progress. Even so, it's a great budget option with some really good features. The common areas a well kept, the grounds are lush and the rooms were comfortable, clean and private. The tropical breakfast was a great bonus as not many places include this in their tarrif. The restaurant has good food for a decent price in a relaxed environment. Cape Trib is a relatively isolated place (limited phone service etc) and Ferntree is a budget friendly, relaxed base to enjoy this special place from.

We stayed 3 nights and we're upgraded to a garden loft room which was very clean and serviced daily. Continental breakfasts were great with fresh fruit, fantastic muesli, yoghurt and a choice of breads and excellent tea and coffee. A great location, friendly staff and a lovely swimming pool. Having glimpsed other accommodation on Cape trib I think we had the best, with overall feel and proximity to beach we were very pleased. Our three children (and ourselves) loved this place and keep asking to go back. Thanks :)

Great rainforest setting close to a good restaurant, beach and a forest boardwalk where we where very lucky to have seen two adult Cassowary and a chick in the wild.
The staff were friendly, helpful and had good local knowledge, the continental breakfast was basic but included in the price of the room so I guess it was value.
But the place just seemed to missing a few finishing touches. Our room was big but lacked any appeal, apart from a huge bed there was nothing else in it, not even a couple of chairs to sit on. The maintenance around the resort looked to be unfinished in places, and the areas that are not normally seen by many visitors such as the laundry facilities and the rear of the adjacent restaurant were untidy and gave the impression they might not be as clean as they should be.

This propert advertises itself as providing both airconditioning and breakfast. On the issuie of airconditioning our villa had a disused window airconditioner and a wall mounted unit with no remote or any other means of using it. When faced with this problem (and a lack of a phone in the room and the absence of mobile phone coverage) my husband got dressed and went to the restuarant ro request assistance. Some time later we were visited and requested to leave the room while the necessary work was undertaken--we saw no reason for me to get dressed as well and leave the room. Meanwhile tenants in other villas also came out requesting assistance. They were not asked to move outside while work was undertaken! We were told we would not get any help and we could leave one day earlier than our booking allowed for! "An envelope will be in the office for you tommorrow with the refund in it". We went to sleep and about two hours later we were visted by two police that had been called out by the resort -we asked where they had come from .They said Mossman!.What an obsecene waste of scarces police resources! They confimed an envelope would be in the office next morning .When I went there next morning there was no envelope and the (two) managers seemed incapable of doing what they had suggested would be done .After waiting sometime they finally agreed to do what they had promised and what the police had advised us of .The breakfast we understand is not a breakfast as normally envisaged. It is an uncooked CONTINENTAL breakast. Several people were heard complaining. This review has been written by my wife as I am too disgusted to have anything more to do with this particular "resort"

Room Tip: Ensure you check the fine print before you book --Questions I would ask include --Is there power ava...

This customer first approached restaurant staff in his UNDERWEAR in the middle of our restaurant stating his air conditioner was not working. I, the manager, was contacted immediately to fix the issue at 9pm. When I arrived at this gentleman’s room he was on the balcony directing racial slurs against me. He blamed me with constant swearing in a violent tone for the lack of mobile phone coverage in this remote area. After several attempts to calm him down, I requested he leave the room so I could fix the issue and maintain my safety. He refused to leave and continued to swear at me. Concerned for my safety and the safety of our guests, I called the police as a duty of care to our guests. The police made the decision to come to our resort… I did not request them to come, but given the threats he made they decided they would come to help with the situation. I offered a full refund in cash to this customer if he left immediately which he declined. It was the police’s decision to let him sleep the night as he may have been heavily intoxicated and not fit to drive. The police told us the customer calmed down considerably when they visited his room and he apologised as he felt emotionally insecure without his mobile phone. In the morning his wife came to reception requesting a cash refund. I asked her to sign a letter stating she had received the money as she would not produce a credit card to return the funds.

Speaking to the customer’s criticisms, I would like to say first of all, that upon arrival, this couple was UPGRADED FREE OF CHARGE from a $130 double room to a split level Garden Loft ($180). No rooms in any hotels in Cape Tribulation have televisions except for our “Poolside Rooms”. Most customers come here to enjoy the 2 World Heritage listed sights, the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest, the oldest rainforest in the world. We have ample emergency plans including radios throughout the property. This particular customer resided in a room closest to restaurant staff and a radio, hence my immediate arrival to help with the air conditioner. Once entering the customers’ room the following day I found the window mounted air conditioner had its power switched off at the wall, a simple problem to fix however I could not enter a room with such violent and abusive behaviour. Our breakfast is clearly stated to be a continental breakfast which is included at no extra cost. Our competitors do not include a breakfast in their pricing, so we feel it is an added bonus staying with us.

We take immense care in ensuring a peaceful and memorable stay at Ferntree Rainforest Lodge. I ask reviewers look through all of our reviews and you will see just how much we care for our resort, our guests and the amazing place we call home.

We had a wonderful time here. The owner was friendly and helpful, it's close to everything and breakfast was lovely. We would stay again and recommend to our friends. If we had to make one small suggestion it would be screens on the windows, otherwise can't fault it.

If anyone out there is planning a location wedding, this is the place. Everything about our wedding was perfect...we had a beach wedding @Cape Tribulation then returned Ferntrees for a beautiful reception at the Cassowary Cafe, which was all set up by the wonderful staff. They catered for 75 of us and the food was amazing, and to top it all of we had a 3 day stay, and in that time we were able to enjoy a reef trip with Ocean Safari, a hens lunch at Whet restaurant, Jungle Surfing...and if we had stayed longer we could have gone sea kayaking with Paddletrek, 4WD driving up Bloomfield track, fruit tasting at The Exotic Fruit Farm...We're all coming back to tick off more from the bucket list...Thank you Cass, Cane, Kevin and all your staff from Ferntree Rainforest Resort for making our wedding day so special...

Room Tip: there are rooms for all budgets, though i would recommend the garden loft or pool side rooms.

My 2 friends from down south and I stayed here for 2 nights in a garden loft cabin and we all absolutely loved the place. The loft cabins are great - so bright and airy, verandah to sit out on, huge bathroom, good size fridge and clean, comfy beds...who could ask for more ! You can open all the louvres wide in the top room at night and feel very at one with nature...its lovely. All the staff we met were so friendlyand helpful too, pat on the back to you all guys, you are doiung a great job. The whole place was very neat and tidy and the bottom swimming pool is great. Would not hesitate to recommend the resort and we will be back for sure.
