Reviewing this place objectively there are definitely a few positives. The camping ground is literally next to the beach. There is only a small dense strip of remnant rainforest that separates our tent from the beach. You can’t see the beach through the rainforest and I’m glad that the trees are there to act as an obstacle to the crocodiles (there are no crocodile; it’s just me being paranoid).
The amenities are standard; they are not new but all the amenities definitely performed their functions. You need to remember that this is a campsite so the fact that there is running hot water has already satisfied my expectations. There are cabins for those of you that prefer to sleep on a mattress.
I am impressed by the wood-fire pizza restaurant at the camp ground. At Cape Tribulation, there are no other eating establishment options around the camp ground. Therefore, the $18 tasty pizza that I ate was a real surprise. The size of the pizza is the same as a gourmet pizza you would get in the city. We ordered the Cassowary (a chicken pizza) and the Crocodilian (a crocodile pizza). The cost of Toohey New and Pure Blond is $5. Again, I am very surprised by the decent pricing of the beer considering that there is no pub or bottle shop or any other alternative for that matter that you can just go to, at the end of the street, and buy drinks. The service was good; a chilled type of service. The staffs are Australian, so we were able to interact with the ‘locals.’
Overall, camp ground is a standard camp ground but the restaurant is a good discovery and worth visiting.
