“Real Austrailia”
Reviewed 19 July 2013

My wife and I and our adult son stayed 4 days this July. We could not have been happier, unless we stayed longer. It was like visiting an uncle and aunt on their farm. Dawn makes you feel at home and comfortable in the surroundings. They truly embrace their farm life in the rain forest and they shared their enthusiasm and love for their home with us.The setting is beautiful, the wildlife plentiful, and the beach is as picturesque as any in the world.
Our snorkeling on the reef with Ocean Safari was perfect and we took a guided walk through the rain forest at the Cooper Creek Wilderness that was both beautiful and mind blowing, with the insight the owner/ guide shared with us about the rainforest.
If you want to get away from it all and have a real Australian experience stay here.

My sister (probably the last reviewer) had me visit Australia from the US and while in northern Queensland, we stayed here.

I'm a big city boy from New York, so while I wasn't very used to having no air conditioning or being among trees, the experience was pleasantly surprising and very immersive. At night you can hear the sounds of the forest as if they came straight out of a movie. I had always assumed they made up/enhanced the sounds for a more theatrical experience, but here it was, clear as day.

The best part about this farmstay is the people: the proprietor and visitors were all very friendly, and to get the most out of the experience I suggest dining and speaking with them all. There's a central house with dining table and kitchen available to all, and we all shared a few meals and stories with other visitors, including a young couple from Denmark (I think?) and an older couple from Tasmania.

All in all, a beautiful and personal experience. I loved it, and if I go back down there again, I'll stay here for sure.

My brother came over from the US and I wanted to show him the most 'real' Great Barrier Reef/FNQ by going up to Cape Tribulation and staying at Cape Trib Farmstay. I was so happy that I made that choice instead of staying in the usual hotels in Cairns and Port Douglas.

Cape Trib Farmstay is a great little gem. It is nestled down a deep driveway off Cape Tribulation Rd. It is within walking distance (5 - 10min) to the local eatery, grocery store & pub. Also a lot activities in the area pick up directly from the Farmstay, which is quite convenient.

We stayed at the Farmstay for 2 nights in one of the cabins. The accommodation is very well attended to and clean. The flyscreens are sound as there weren't as many insects found inside the cabin as I thought, which was a relief. Upon arrival we received a very warm welcome from our host, Dawn, who got out the local map and showed us everything from the beach to secret fishing spots. She also prepared for us a very delicious tropical fruit basket. To be honest, up until this month, I'd never even tried mangosteen and now I am addicted!

The only thing I regret about this trip is that we weren't able to spend more time there. It was great sitting in the common area and having a chat with some of the guests there. We even shared a dinner with a lovely Dutch couple (see below Ronald). I definitely plan to return and will stay there again :)

Room Tip: Get one of the cabins as it is much more secluded.

We intended to stay one night, but ended up staying the rest of our holiday here. Dawn is a great host and the place has a great atmosphere. The exotic fruit breakfasts were also a great thing.
Make sure you have enough time to spend lazying on the verandah. Cape Trib is a special place. And the Farmstay is a good place to spend your time there. Oh, and don't bother buying cooking oil: there's heaps of it since every guest before you brought some (including us).

Room Tip: We stayed in the Farmhouse: excellent value and we like to have easy access to the kitchen and the b...

We had a Cabin for two nights, which was lovely, clean, Free of insects, huge enough for two and in the middle of the fruit farm. On arrival we got a warm welcome with a lot of helpful information about tours, walks, etc. The fruit basket is fun, because you learn about tropical fruits, you have maybe never heard about before. The rooms in the main Building are a little bit more basic and without ensuite.

Loved staying in the clean and quiet cabins.
Dawn was very helpful giving advice on places to go, sorting out the night walk and also doing our laundry - thank you!
Delicious breakfast with fruit from the farm. Also a good communal kitchen with coffee beans, grinder and cafetiere provided!
Can easily walk to the beach and board walk where we saw a wild cassowary! Would also recommend driving to Emmagen creek for a nice dip in the water pools.
Would love to go back one day. It was definitely one of the highlights of our holiday!
There's no internet connection/limited phone reception but that's part of the beauty of staying there and in the Daintree rainforest!

Cute little cabin, clean & peaceful :) the only thing we were upset about was that we weren't told about the breakfast fruit basket! So we missed out on that!! :( lucky we brought our own food & snacks! We would recommend this place to our friends & family.
