We stayed one night in a 2 bedroom unit and found this accommodation to be fairly basic but ideal for the location. It was very clean and the staff very helpful. We did all our own cooking in the guest kitchen which was well equipped including plates and cutlery etc and the staff kindly advised they would do the washing up. I also think it was well priced and would not hesitate to return there.

Room Tip: Talk to the staff about your requirements when booking.

The accommodation was very basic and disappointing. The room we stayed in was the size of 1/2 shipping container, with old linoleum on the floor. It did have an ensuite, consisting of a metal sink, toilet and plastic sort of shower that you could hardly wash yourself in. There was just enough room to walk around the bed - just! Room for our luggage was a problem. While Kerry was friendly and helpful I just don't know why we were given such a bad room when there were so few people staying at the lodge, and there were other better rooms. One of the reasons we also wanted to stay there was to use the observatory, but we were told that the man who operated it wouldn't open due to too much smoke in the atmosphere. Other friends were staying there for that specific reason, so it was very unsatisfactory.

Room Tip: Have a look at what you're offered first!

Mornings were cool, days were sunny and nights freezing. As a family we had fun and the kids had lots of space to run around. Grounds were neat and tidy as well as the amenities. Service was great and everyone was so helpful. Going back to camp again.

Room Tip: Sorry can`t give advice on rooms, we camped and was fun!

We escaped the bustle of the city and took our tent and camping gear arriving at Chillagoe early evening. On arrival Liam and Kerry went out of their way to help as we need power for a "sleep machine" which we had inadvertently omitted to tell them at the time of booking the tent site.. The "campground" is everything a campground should be. The facilities were more than adequate and clean at all times. There was always a smiling face at the reception area, and always friendly satisfied visitors around the Lodge. The staff knowledge of the local area was excellent. We did the Eco Lodge Observatory on the Saturday night, if you are interested in astronomy this is a "must" you will not be disappointed. The natural sky in Chillagoe is amazing. Seeing the "rings of Saturn" through the Observatory telescope was the highlight of the weekend for us. Thank you Kerri and Liam for you hospitality and for this outback camping experience. We will definately be back.

just had our third visit to chillagoe eco lodge.what a great place.first visited in october last year.it was a quiet & peaceful place to stay.met kerri, the manager, who was very helpful & friendly.she told us about the cave tours we could do,how to get to the smelter & the beautiful swimming holes at the weir.tom pryor's ford museum is also a must do as well.kerri & paul (kerri's partner & chillagoe bus driver)also told us about other self guided cave tours, the on site observatory tour & things to see & do a little bit out of town.we really enjoyed sitting & watching the birds & roos come in close in the afternoons.having a cooling dip in the pool, watching the beautiful sunsets & chatting to kerri & paul while they told us some of the history & stories about this place.we left wanting to come back & explore somemore.when we arrived for our 2nd visit in april this year,we were greeted by kerri like old friends.what a lovely lady she is.she introduced us to liam,a welsh backpacker doing some outback work & michelle ,

It was a bit dusty and dirty. Just a nice, basic campground. The Eco is a bit ambitious as it is a very dry and dusty part of Australia. The showers are communal and very small. There is no view. I've heard the local weir is lovely.

Room Tip: Stay away from the toilets.

We escaped the dreary coastal weather recently and spent a week camping at the wonderful Chillagoe Eco Lodge. This is our fifth trip this year and will definitely not be the last. We have been visiting the lodge for over twenty years. The lodge caters well for all types of campers and also provides a range of good accommodation. At Easter we stayed in a two bedroom cabin with daughter and grandchildren, which was very successful, but for just the two of us we prefer the powered camp ground. The Eco Lodge is currently looking very good and the birdlife is more prolific than ever. Every evening the wallabies can be seen quietly hopping around the grounds, and the clear starry nights make the observatory tour a thrilling experience. We have eaten at the restaurant a few times and always enjoyed the meals, and now there is a new garden area near the bar to sit and have a beer and a yarn. There is an excellent camp kitchen though we actually prefer to cook next to our little tent on a single burner gas stove. At certain times of the year the Lodge can be extremely busy and at other times very peaceful, but at all times, in our experience, it is very well managed by Kerry and her team. There is much to do around Chillagoe for people of all ages and physical capabilities. Old mine sites, historical village sites, swimming holes on Chillagoe Creek and the Walsh River, bush walking and photography around the limestone karsts and caves , marble mines , various aboriginal art sites, the museum and information Hub in town. We find something new to do every time we visit. The QPWS have done a fantastic job with the old smelters, putting in walkways, lookouts and information boards, and conduct tours of some beautiful caves several times a day. Thanks to Kerry, Liam, Michelle, Alison, Robert, Paul and Puss for making our last stay such a memorable one. Janet Smith, Cairns.
