Owner description: Very personal (max. 10) nature-based Daintree River tour. Experienced, friendly and science-based information. We think the tour when on a small boat is so much better than tours on the other larger 20, 24, 30-50 seat boats that also tour the river. (Doing usual their usual one-hour croc-spotting tours while sitting shoulder to shoulder on hard bench seats). (On some boats the people are all sitting facing toward the inside of the boat). We go for longer tours (minimum two hours) and go places where many boats can't go because they are limited by limit and larger boat sizes. We get to see many magical places that they they can't. Several times over the years people have told me that their Mangrove Adventures tour was the highlight of their Australian vacation. "The Nightwatchman" is a small 6 metre, open-topped, punt with 10 comfortable swivel seats. Powered by quiet 60 hp 4-stroke outboard motor. And we don't offer any other marketing gimmicks other just passion and careing.

My family of four, with elder children, did two Daintree river tours while in the region and Dan's was by far the best. We did a two hour evening trip, the two hours passing quickly but being more relaxed than the normal one hour ones offered by others. Dan has a fabulous manner and clearly enjoys what he does. He has a lovely style, is very knowledgeable and very patient in answering the many questions we asked.

I have been coming to the Daintree River area for years. On January 7th I went on the early evening tour and on the 8th, I did the afternoon tour. Dan is so knowledgeable that it is always a pleasure to accompany him. He knows where bird nests are, he finds crocs; he has a deep interest in mangroves, birds, rivers, and all animals inhabiting the Daintree area. His tours surpass all of his competitors.

Took an evening tour with Dan. He has a great knowledge of not only the river but the surround land and sky. He placed the river into its ecological context and has been the long enough to "remeber when" the last huge flood was. Dan showed us all sorts of local birds, many up close. The highlight was the evening spotlighting. The target was crocodiles, which we saw. In addition there were little bats, huge bats, and some big pretty green treefrogs. Our trip had 9 on it, which was about the capacity. This allowed Dan to personalize the trip, easliy answer evrybodies questions, and make sure we all saw what we wanted.

We had a very interesting tour with Dan! It was personal, he knew everything about the river and in the dark he spotted a couple of small crocs and a treefrog. Last but definitely not least, we saw the alphamale of the river: Scarface! Impressive! Dan also adviced us on where to stay the night and helped us with the ferry. I would definately recommend Dan!

We did the evening tour with Dan Irby, because it was the only tour available because of the high tide. The journey was really nice - relaxing, informative and exciting! Dan was very friendly, a great guide and he really knows his stuff. It´s only space for 8-9 persons onboard his boat, so it feels very personal, which is a good thing!

We already knew that it was small chances to spot crocodiles before the sunset, so we enjoyed the nice scenery and spotted various kind of birds, crabs and mudskippers. Dan also showed us some interesting things as flowers who would blossom on our way back, a huge wasp nest and told us a lot of interesting things about the mangroves.

We enjoyed the nice sunset, all the bats flying around us and our "hunt" for crocs. Dan was eagerly searching around with his flashlight, and he spotted several of them! Most of them disappeared under water before we came close, but we got up very close to two small cute crocodile babies! Just before we got back Dan spotted a frog sitting on the banks in the darkness. Impressive!

I highly recommend to do this trip if you´re in Daintree!
Thank you very much Dan Irby.
