“Elegant tropical b'n'b with extra special hosts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2011

Initially we had been looking at the eco-retreats in the area but ended up choosing a b'n'b, the Red Mill House. All I can say is that I’m really pleased we did so. In a tranquil setting, Red Mill House itself is beautiful and elegant with lots of wood, glass and light. Trish and Andrew were extremely kind and know exactly how to make you feel welcome, and their local knowledge is invaluable. The cooked breakfast was delicious and included homemade yogurt and local fruit. We got all our washing done and hung up our clothes in the beautiful tropical garden. They also had a lovely little secluded pool, although due to our short stay we didn’t get the chance to use it. I regret slightly not finding out a little bit more about the local birds, as I didn’t realise that this was the main attraction. In two days we did, however, go on a boat trip to see the crocs and travel up to cape tribulation for a few walks through the rainforest and mangroves. I couldn’t recommend Trish and Andrew more highly; they are fantastic, as is Red Mill.

We stayed at Red Mill House for 3 nights recently at the end of a two month trip to Australia. We wish we had booked for longer! Our hosts Trish and Andrew could not have been more gracious and helpful. They helped us organize a guided birding day, gave us maps of where the best birding trails and roads were in the vicinity of the B and B and provided a wonderful breakfast each morning. The house is set in a lovely garden and the room was great - comfortable and well equipped.

Red Mill House is set in the tiny village of Daintree so the choices of where to eat in the evening are a bit limited if you don't want to drive anywere but the local restaurant was perfectly adequate. For day trips, Cape Tribulation is just a short drive away - a wonderous area of twisty roads and multiple signs warning travellers to be careful of the elusive cassowary!

We would recommend Red Mill House to people with any level of interest in birding or nature in the rain forest.

We had a delightful time in Daintree. The recommendations of local tours, guides and walks could not have been more suitable. The food was amazing and each day we set off with all the little extras that ensured our days were great. I would highly recommend spending some time at Red Mill House with some of the best hosts I have met.

We are visitors from the US. We stayed in an upper level room with view of the back yard. The guest room is charming, clean, and quiet. The grounds are worth a walk and full of rich plant-life, giving a warm welcome to frequent bird visits.

The room offered everything we required. No TV or noisy distractions in the room. However, free WiFi was available, which gave us the rare opportunity to send photos home and check-in with family and friends to let them know we are safe and having fun.
It should be noted, as we were unaware, that WiFi is available in Australia, but it is not FREE in most hotels.

The hosts are as charming and warm as the accamodation. Breakfast is top notch with fresh local fruits, home-made yogurt, and local grown eggs. It's a good thing they don't offer lunch and dinner. If they did, we never would have left the B&B.

Red Mill House was the most expensive stay on our trip to Australia but we thought it was worth it due to their location and the advice they could give us about bird watching. The hosts were very friendly and knowledgeable about where to go, it was a great shame we didn't have more time in the area. The room was fine and breakfast with home made breads, yoghurt and cooked breakfast excellent. The boat trips were only 2 minutes away, walking which was handy with a 6.30am start. They recommended and organised a bird watching guide for us, we're not serious twitchers and had no expectations so we were really happy with our day out, it was good to see the area we visited outside Daintree and the Wallabies we fed at Granite Gorge! Dinner is an issue around Daintree the options in the village were limited, better to drive to Mojos in Mosman (30mins) or the Eco Lodge, only 10 minutes away.

We're happy to stay here again when we next visit.

Stayed for 3 nights in mid March in comfortable simple room overlooking garden. Trish and Andrew were very friendly and went out of their way to show us local bird and wildlife. They were always ready to answer any questions and offer advice. Excellent breakfasts and BBQ dinner (available on request). There is a fridge on the verandah and it's an wonderful spot to eat and enjoy a glass of wine. High quality rainforest tea and coffee always available. Internet was avalaible. Rooms had ceiling fans and AC ( although we didn't need the latter much). Daintree is pretty quiet out of season but we loved it and hope to return...

Fantastic hospitality. Comfortable and clean, but its the surrounds that really make the place fantastic if you're into nature. Trish and Andrew (the proprieters) realy went out of their way to make us welcome here and the amount of localknowledge they imparted to us would have been pretty tricky to glean on your own. Would recommend it to anyone interested in nature, particularly bird watching.
