Red Mill House is the perfect base from which to explore the Daintree rainforest and surrounding area. The owners, Trish and Andrew, are very knowledgeable about the local area and the most welcoming and delightful hosts you could wish to meet.

My partner and I recently had a wonderful three night stay at the Red Mill House in Daintree village.

Trish and Andrew are the friendlies hosts around, with loads of information about all the great things to do in the area. They were also very obliging in catering for my dietary requirements (gluten and dairy free) and went the extra mile in so many ways. They even helped with my surprise proposal! My partner sure did get a surprise when we arrived to champagne, flowers and chocolates and a marriage proposal!

Thanks for everything Trish and Andrew, what a magical place you live in!

We stayed one night and wished we could have stayed longer. The owners of Red Mill House could not have been lovelier. As soon as we arrived, Trish and Andrew suggested a wonderful birding boat trip on the Daintree, which given our limited time was perfect. Waking up to the cackles of the laughing kookaburras, followed by the breakfast was such a treat. The rooms are clean, simple and very comfortable. Altogether, it was such a pleasant experience; I couldn't recommend the Red Mill House enough.

Three nights at Red Mill House were the most welcoming and enjoyable accommodation experience of a 6 week holiday covering coastal Queensland from Brisbane to Cooktown and out west to Isa and Karumba. The assets of Red Mill House are Andrew and Trish, a couple of acres of rain forest and a building with charm, comfortable modern facilities and verandahs which allow relaxation in the tranquility of the bush setting and sociable gathering at a "Trish special" breakfast or for a drink at any time. Trish and Andrew treat guests like friends, which I am sure many of them become, and won't rest until they are sure that you are exploring your interests to the full and having the best time you can. Their knowledge of the Daintree and beyond is very impressive. So, let them know your interests and sit back as the local, or not so local, offerings are laid out for you. Absolutely recommended!

We stayed for 2 nights which wasn't long enough. The B&B is in a quiet and lovely rainforest setting with lots of birds and bandicoots, but at the same time is only a 2 minute walk from the local pub and the boat cruise along the Daintree River. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed, with the upstairs veranda area a great spot for breakfast or an evening drink taking in the surrounding rainforest and garden area. Trish and Andrew were exceptional hosts, always cheerful, helping with information and tips about the area and things to see, where to eat etc. which were 100% spot on. The cooked breakfasts were great, as were the home made bread, jams and yoghurt. To top it off, if you are interested in birds, Andrew and Trish are experts who will put you on the right track. They graciously took an hour of their time to take us up the road for some bird spotting which topped off our stay. There a many great restaurants and eating places close by. A top location to stay at.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms have great view of the garden and surrounding rainforest.

Thanks for the great review Peter. It is terrific when people appreciate what Daintree has to offer. Maybe another escape from Melbourne's winter, another year?!

Terrific people and place. Great for natural history study (especially birding) or just relaxing. The hosts are genuine, helpful, and happy. Several good spots for birding are walking distance from the Red Mill House. Local places to eat are very good.

Room Tip: Quiet and away from it all.

We chose this place because of its reputation for good bird watching - we are by no means fanatical birders, and certainly not twitchers, but do enjoy seeing the local wildlife and Trish put together a superb 3 day package to include a full days bird watching with a fantastic local guide (Doug Harrington - see review elsewhere). This is a lovely spot but what really makes it special are the hosts. Trish and Andrew could not be more welcoming. They are just a lovely couple, full of energy and enthusiasm, and go out of their way to make sure you get the most from your stay. They are extremely knowledgeable and just very interesting to talk to - lots of stories from their own travels around the world shared over a glass of wine on the verandah one evening. We felt like we had known them for ages.

We would give this place a 5 star rating for the breakfasts alone! Lovely homemade marmalades and breads, a well cooked 'full English', a gorgeous fruit platter and constant tea and coffee on tap all day. it was especially welcome when we returned from our early morning river trip (having seen plenty of birds, snakes and crocodiles) - an extremely civilised way to start the day.

Daintree is very fortunate to be a tiny village but with three extremely good restaurants. The one in the village is walking distance and very good. The other two involve just a short drive but are excellent (again, see reviews elsewhere for the Daintree Tea House and Daintree Ecolodge). Trish made bookings for us each morning and the Ecolodge give Red Mill guests a 10% discount. As you can tell good food is a very important part of our holidays!

There is also a very nice swimming pool which my husband made full use of each evening on our return from various excursions. As well as watching the birds in the garden we also saw some spectacular butterflies including the Cairns Bird Wing. And we even enjoyed being woken at around 6am each morning by the kookaburras...

All in all this stay was a real highlight of our first visit to Australia and we would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone. Thanks again Trish and Andrew - we will always remember your hospitality.
