Owner description: The original Kuranda Scenic Railway is a spectacular journey comprising unsurpassed views of World Heritage Listed rainforest, steep ravines and picuresque waterfalls within the Barron Gorge National Park. This famous railway winds its way from Cairns to Kuranda, the village in the rainforest. Constructed between 1882 and 1891 it is considered an engineering feat of tremendous magnitude. Hundreds of men were employed to build the 15 hand-made tunnels and 37 bridges that stand as a monument to the pioneers of tropical North Queensland

So much beauty to behold and fascinating history - a must do if you are afraid of heights, a great alternative to the sky rail.

Would highly recommend the train up the mountain and the Skyrail down.

Kuranda is a great place with shops and smaller zoo like places to go.

The train takes you over waterfalls through tunnels and gives you small talks on how it was built, Gold class enables you to have onboard food and chairs (looks like other cabins were bench seats).

Literally still on the train but had to write a review. My husband and I upgraded to gold class for an extra $49 and were spoilt with amazing views & commentary, drinks, nibbles and sorbet, all with fantastic service! Can’t recommend enough for couples or groups.

We had a great time with the kids on a duly packed train. Our kids loved the journey through the tunnels, over bridges and up the hill. Thoroughly enjoyable experience. Our kids are 3 & 5. Highly recommend.
