“This excellent vote is purely for Chef Michael”
Reviewed 9 January 2013

Please be aware, this rating is based on the chef's food - not the actual hotel or service staff.

There are plenty of negatives with this place but the food is its savior.

I am not exaggerating when I say this chef is like a 5 star gourmet chef who somehow found himself in a Maleny pub.

We ate here three times in a week during our stay, in spite of very average service and some really questionable management policies - this guy's food is THAT good.

Apparently he has been the chef for around 8 months, and they should hold onto him for dear life - he's a maestro in the kitchen !

Mains eaten by us included the Crespella (vegetarian baked herb crepe roulade) $18.50, Bangers & Mash (Cumberland sausages) $18.50, Oven roasted chicken breast $24.50 & Chicken Parmigiana ($20) and the pizzas

We were a little disappointed with the kids meals as they typical processed nuggets etc, but they were still very acceptable. I wish the chef would extend his beautiful, freshly made food to the kids.

The food !!!
The location
Lovely Queenslander building with polished boards, high ceilings etc. Nice balcony area with several small tables.

Unfortunately this place has a lot of annoying policies and a lot of "don't do's" ..... plus they stop taking dessert orders at 8.30 so you need to get in no later than 6.30/7 pm for dinner. This place finishes up quite early and doesn't really allow you to linger and have coffee & desserts after 9. Definitely annoying if you've been out all day and want to book for 7.30 !

They only do pizza on certain nights
They will not do a half / half pizza - very annoying considering the price of the pizza
(and also very inconvenient for a family who have different allergies & taste etc)
They charged a 15% surcharge on a public holiday and offered a limited menu
One of the night's we dined there we tried to order dessert immediately after our mains only to be told they could not take a dessert order as they had cleaned up (what the ?!?!?)
They do Bingo on a Thursday night and the noise level is very high.
(I wouldn't return on a Thursday night again as we couldn't hold a conversation)
No play area for kids (this would make the world of difference to this place !)

Overall, the place is an ok place when it comes to service and policies, but the food is definitely worth coming for.

I would definitely come back if they still had the same chef !!!
