“Old and dated...”
Reviewed 26 August 2012 via mobile

Unfortunately our time at Trafalgar was short and rather stressful. We booked a room at Trafalgar Towers and the room we were allocated was shocking. Cupboard doors in main bedroom loose on the hinges, both single doonas in second bedroom were soiled with stains underneath, dining table and chairs were old and rickety - did not want to sit down for fear of it falling apart, tv cabinet scratched beyond belief, couch dirty, shower screens had horizontal cracks in them, door stop was hanging by one nail, the unit smelt musty and was not of a clean standard. After complaining to management we were shifted to another room, which was slightly better, but still, regarding cleanliness, was not up to par. Upon complaining to management, we were told by the lady that we had been fully warned as to the state of the room, which was not the case. We have 2 family members who dealt with Trafalgar - on the initial enquiry we were not once told about the state of the room (management actually told us the rate we were quoted was a clerical error by the staff - when in reality it was cheap because the room is shocking - this was not disclosed!!). On actual booking, we were only told the walls were in need of a lick of paint and the carpets were worn. A week before we arrived we asked Trafalgar to send us pictures of the room which they could not provide. We were told by the management that the owner of the apartment (they are individually owned) likes the apartment that way, as if there was something wrong with us! Who is the paying customer here? Needless to say in the end Management kindly gave us a refund and we were able to find alternate accommodation after staying only 1 night at Trafalgar. Just BE AWARE - if you are given a room on floor 8 - do not commit until you inspect the room first!

Britt L L, Manager at Trafalgar Towers, responded to this review, 31 August 2012
My name is Britt (the lady referred to in the review). My husband, Grant and I have run Trafalgar Waterfront Apartments (Trafalgar Towers), for six years now and have never had such an unfair and, in parts, untrue review. So here’s our side of the story…
When the enquiry came through on the internet, my junior receptionist called the guest directly and told her that we only had an economy apartment left for her requested dates. As manager, I then asked to speak with the woman directly to ensure she was fully aware of the condition of the apartment, telling her that it was “in desperate need of a renovation, but with stunning views, new appliances, new lounge and new bed.”
She agreed to go ahead with the booking at the discounted rate offered to all clients for economy apartments. There was an error in the price - she was quoted for 14 nights instead of 15, but we honored that as we had put it in the quote.
Later I received an email from the woman’s father that acknowledged not only the state of the apartment, but the reason for the discount when he said “We remember being informed that the room we have been allocated is not the best, hence a discounted rate.”
So, yes, they were told about the condition of the apartment and they knew that was why they were charged an economy price. He also asked for photos, which we could not take as the apartment was fully booked up until his arrival. I explained this in my written reply and once again confirmed the condition of the apartment, this time saying “the bathrooms and the kitchen are original condition. It needs new carpet and a good paint, but lounge, bed and appliances are all great.”
Anyway, it seems that while many of our regular guests actually request this apartment, saying that they find it great value for money with stunning views, we understand that this is not always the case; it just wasn’t suitable for these guests; and, after relocating them for the first night, we gave them a full refund as we were fully booked in all other apartments.
I guess the hardest thing is that my husband and I pride ourselves in operating a great business with honesty and integrity. We aim to provide excellent customer service so it is difficult to read such an exaggerated and untrue account of events. For those reading this there are only 3 economy apartments in our pool, the other 33 range from standard to totally refurbished deluxe apartments as well as two 3 bedroom penthouses. Each apartment is individually owned and the level of refurbishment lies with the owner. We take responsibility for cleaning and give our guarantee our apartments are clean. If something is overlooked (and that can happen), we guarantee to fix it asap.
To the people who wrote this, I apologize for your dissatisfaction and hope that the rest of your stay on the Sunshine Coast was what you were looking for.
To the others reading this response, I guess in hospitality, you can’t please everyone all the time, but that doesn’t stop us from trying! Economy apartments are only ever sold to those who are well informed of their condition and are priced accordingly. They are not offered to customers or last minute sites such as WOTIF or special deals like Living Social. Please read our other reviews : )))

What a lovely place for a family holiday with 2 young children

We upgraded to a deluxe apartment. Master bedroom was large and lovey bed. Second bedroom with 2 single beds very small though. Everything was freshly renovated with European appliances. There was a good selection of crockery and utensils (however no frypans - only electric ones). However, as these apartments are all individually owned, it will vary what each has.

Heated Pool and spa. Also had pontoon to fish from, pool table and table tennis table and ? a suana

SPectacular views across the river and to the ocean from 12th floor apartment.

Shopping centre (Coles, Myer, Restraunts) 5 minute walk away

Beach 15 minute walk away (OK for us, but if this is a focus, there are lots of apartments closer)

30 minute drive to Australia Zoo. 20 minute drive to Strawberry fields for the kids to pick their own strawberries. 5 minute drive to Maloolaba and Underwater World.

Staff all friendly and helpful.

WE'LL BE BACK

We loved our stay at Trafalgar Towers. Nice and quiet. Great location. Comfortable, clean apartments with plenty of space. The highlight was the heated pool. We couldn't get the kids out of it. --- L. Fisher

Best location In the area. Tons of room. Great facilities. Views to die for. Quiet and peaceful. Car not needed. Terrific cafes and restaurants nearby. Book here and you will not be disappointed. We are off to Newfoundland for a conference and I bet we won't get a place as perfect as this. Will be back here ASAP. Be sure to go to Bica cafe for lunch. A special treat is Thr Boat Shed restaurant at Cotton Tree

We had a wonderful time. The weather was not good. That did not matter as Trafalgar Towers had a heated spa , Pool and sauna which kept our three children, ages 16, 14 and 10 very entertained. As well as a games room with table tennis and pool.We had a 2bedroom unit which was a great size for a family of five. The patio was the length of the room, with magnificent views. We had one clear day. We hired the canoes and went down the maroochy river. Went fishing with our boat we had moored at Trafalgar Towers. If you dont have a boat you can fish from trafagar Towers jetty. The Managers were very helpful and informative. The grounds were very tidy. Will tell everyone what a great place you have. We cannot wait to go back. The Boyers

As usual Britt and Grant, we had an exceptional holiday. I cannot recollect the amount of holidays that we have experienced at Trafalgar, however, our continued return, sometimes twice a year is an indication of our thoughts about Trafalgar. The service has always been good and the courtesies extended by yourself and some of the previous managers has been exemplary. While ever we can we will return for at least one annual holiday at Trafalgar.

Room Tip: Rooms B and C afford a better view of the river and ocean and generally are quieter.

We discovered Trafalgar Towers around 2007 and have returned every year. The service provided from the Managers has always been exceptional. Their commitment to giving you a good holiday shows in the amenities which are kept in tip top condition. The location along Maroochy River offers a peaceful view of coast line with no traffic noise. The new pool area, full tennis court and kayaks are always enjoyed. Easy walk to Sunshine Plaza and walking distance to some good restaurants.
