“What a Great Place to Stay in Queensland”
Reviewed 26 October 2011

We would fully recommend this B&B to anyone travelling in the Mission Beach area of Queensland. This was our first visit to Australia and we stayed in the main Lodge itself which was spacious and extremely comfortable. Taking Sue's wonderful cooked breakfasts on the verandah, overlooking Mick's beautiful garden, was definitely special. Mick and Sue do everything they can to make their visitors feel welcome and provide valuable information on the surrounding area. We were fortunate to see the Cassowary appear in the garden - what an incredible creature it is! A swim in the pool at the end of a hot afternoon was perfect and we would not hesitate in going back to Licuala Lodge.

This is a really lovely B&B. Hospitable hosts, comfortable rooms, swimming pool, big lounge and self catering facilities, lovely garden, quiet location and a brilliant breakfast

Room Tip: All rooms are similar and good

This is a great place. Our first stay in Australia. Things in general were a bit ragged around the edges after cyclone Iasi, but Mike and Sue had clearly done a lot of recovery work. This was not so much a bed and breakfast as a full-blown ranch. Lots of space, lovely gardens and really really good cooked breakfasts. 20 minute walk to tropical beach. Great pool, in which Mike takes obvious pride. he and Sue were a mine of information on where to eat, what to see and where to go. He fixed us up at the Undara lava tubes as our next major place to see.

Room Tip: They are all good - nice and quiet, no noisy neighbours.

We stayed in the Licuala Lodge for 7 nights and it was one of the nicest places my wife and I have ever stayed in. Mick and Sue are wonderful hosts and just can’t do enough for you. The accommodation is excellent and the facilities are superb, there is nothing you could want for. Most importantly the fridge is always stocked with beer ;o) The breakfast was superb and my wife was certainly taken by the coconut yogurt. We would certainly recommend this place to everyone and hope to go back there one day. However there was only one thing, the Cassawary only ever turned up when we were out. Still not sure there is such a bird!!!

A thoroughly pleasurable experience! Comfy room, delightful setting, wonderful pool, outstanding breakfast! Sue and Mick provide the little extras - like free beer and soft drinks, and cassowary sightings. Local eating places worth a mention are Spicy Thai, and Cafe Fish Bites for excellent fish and chips.

We stayed in the King Suite and it was lovely to have a little space to unwind in. The rooms were lovely and clean and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was a lovely surprise with a great selection of fresh fruits, yoghurt, breads and a choice of a hot breakfast.
The only downside was the March Flies that were outside on the deck and at the pool area. Also an A/c would have been great. The King Suite is in the main house with breakfast served outside your room which is very convenient, but if you were to try to sleep in it could be awkward.

Mick and Sue are lovely hosts and their beautiful property is a credit to them. Clean, comfortable rooms and a fabulous communal kitchen and lounge area all help to create the perfect Mission Beach escape. Although the gardens have been seriously damaged by Cyclone Yasi, they are recovering and are still really lovely. We loved the little extras like a diverse DVD collection and shelves full of interesting books. We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay and will be going back. Oh, and breakfast.... delicious!!!!

Room Tip: Pay the extra and get the King Suite for a real treat!
