We only stayed the one night at Licuala Lodge but could have easily stayed longer. It felt like home away from home. Hosts couldn't have been friendlier. Room was clean, very comfortable. The balcony was a great spot to enjoy a quiet drink. The lack of hot water was a little disappointing but this could have been due to the new solar system just installed. We used the kitchen and BBQ, they were also very clean. The breakfast was delicoius and the tariff very reasonable. Cheap beer, wine and icecreams are also available. The garden setting is beautiful even after Cyclone Yasi destroyed some of it. The highlight of our stay was the Cassowaries who visited twice.

Hi - many thanks for the review. We now have a solar systems for all our power and hot water, which were installed this year (2012). One of the things that we need to get to grips with is that if we have several consecutive cloudy days we will need to switch the hot water to the booster to ensure a plentiful supply of hot water, especially during the winter months. Here's to hoping that it doesn't happen again :-)

We had a really good stay in Licuala Lodge for 2 nights. It was nice and clean.
We used the kitchen and BBQ, and found everything clean.
Breakfast was lovely, pancakes are a must! Good service.
Wifi was a bit slow. But it works!
We've seen the cassowary's in the beautiful garden!

Hi Benjamin - thanks for your kind words. Glad to know that you and your family are back safe and sound in sunny Holland. Mission Beach is a rural town and as such wi-fi can be slow at times compared to the big cities. However, our wonderful Government has promised us all 'super-fast' broadband, and we should be getting the new service some time in 2013. Fingers crossed.
Hope that you got your mobile phone OK :-)

Veel dank

My wife and I were passing through Mission Beach for a night and only stumbled across this place, but I wish we had had more time there. The garden setting is lovely and seeing 3 cassowaries wander past in the morning was a highlight. The bedroom wing of 4 rooms was very fresh and comfortable and obviously looked after with care. It was nice to chat to the other visitors on the verandah, although be wary that the sound insulation between the rooms is not that high. The breakfast on the deck in the morning was lovely and the hosts were very friendly and accommodating. It was great value and I would stay there again.

Hi - thanks for the review. Not many people get to see a cassowary in the wild, but to see three together (one adult female, one adult male and a juvenile) is an extremely rare sight indeed. The two adults are currently in the courtship process, and hopefully we will see some new chicks sometime in October of this year (2012). We understand about the sound insulation, it could be better - something that we will try to work on. And breakfast is very much a highlight for all our guests.

Many thanks

We recently stayed at Licuala for 2 nights as part of our honeymoon and wished we could have stayed longer - the only place to stay if you're visiting Mission Beach! The rooms are beautifully finished and the tropical gardens and pool are just stunning - you really feel like you're in the middle of the rainforest. We had the pleasure of meeting the resident cassowary too! The breakfasts were fantastic and the guest lounge is a real bonus too, with full kitchen and BBQ facilities, books and TV. Mick and Sue were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble - we arrived quite late on the first night which wasn't a problem, and as we opted for the skydive package this was all arranged for us which was a real help and also saved us some money. We're also very grateful to them for finding my new husband's wedding ring and posting it back to the UK for us! Our stay here was definitely one of the biggest highlights of our honeymoon.

Hi Amanda (and Ryan) - glad that we could be part of your honeymoon trip, and very happy that the 'missing' wedding ring found its way back to ole Blighty. Mission Beach is a quiet relaxed town, but also a haven for adrenalin junkies with Skydiving and White Water Rafting, and well done for choosing our skydiving package which saves our guests a few dollars. Many thanks for the review, and tell hubby that he is not allowed to take the ring off again :-)

We recently stayed at Licuala Lodge and found the place clean, tidy and with good facilities. There is a lounge area with a kitchen for cooking along with a BBQ on the deck. Breakfast was nice although some ceiling fans outside on the deck would be good as there isn't much breeze that gets onto the deck, I would imagine it would be very hot sitting out there in summer. Same goes for the rooms, only ceiling fans, no air conditioning and I would imagine in summer it would be far too hot.

Hi - thanks for the constructive review, much appreciated. The comment about ceiling fans on the breakfast deck is quite right. We used to have ceiling fans on the deck but we found them to be a little bit inadequate, and now during the warmer months we have free-standing fans which can be moved around to where they are needed.
Similarly for the rooms, we add free-standing fans to the rooms which make up for the lack of air-con.
All the best
