I took some family members to the big pineapple as they wanted to spend & purchase items to take back to Victoria... BUT to our disappointment we walked towards the place we visited years ago to purchase goods only to find they have shut the area down & turned it into a market that was only open on Saturdays.... It was a Tuesday & we didn't think to check trip advisor to see if you could purchase goods.. Then i thought well at least I can take my family into the pineapple only to find that is also closed... What is happening to Australias icons they seem to be closing down one by one... Not happy JAN....Certainly will never visit this aust icon again... Will not suggest this icon to anyone visiting qland.

We took my 2 year old neice for her birthday yesterday and it was deplorable. $20 admission to walk around a run down zoo that is basically a very unsafe construction site. There were contractors in most exhibits we went to welding, grinding & digging unsafe holes. I understand that they new owners are trying to recreate the zoo but this should be done when the public is not in the zoo. Not to mention that the lady at the desk told us there was a parenting room down the bottom and her idea of a parenting room is a porta loo. Not impressed to say the least. Oh and the koala feeding that happens at 2:30 everyday again according to the lady at the desk... doesn't happen every day well not in winter the young fella/ zoo keeper told us. The walkways are far from pram and wheelxhsir friendly!! It needs alot of work from a WH&S point of view. All in all very very disappointed. Will not be recommending this to anyone!

Its a shame that places like this get run down this bad over time. We visited here to go see the wildlife that had been moved from the recently shut down Alma Park Zoo... the animals were cool, but the place is a bit amateur...

It is all a bit sad- the worst part is that this wonderful icon, representing past Australian economic strength, still displays Golden Circle as being Australian owned :-(

This place has been taken over by new owners who are trying to bring it back to its former glory. I would love to see it get there and more. The train and the zoo are great and I loved the kitschy Pineapple. There are a few concessions inside the building with some nice stuff. There's a cafe (I only tried the coffee which was good) and a micro brewery. They have a farmers market on a Saturday morning and I think there are a few extra stalls inside. Go and support these people who are trying to bring back an icon.
