“Great stop over on New England Highway”
Reviewed 2 October 2013

We stayed here as a stopover on drive between Sydney and 1770 (Long drive) - the situation in great and well worth leaving the highway for - Quiet, clean facilities, pit fires and clean grassy sites.

I think woudl be a good location to visit and spend some time relaxing on the lake (On site) and family time aroun the campfire.

We stayed here for the Easter week-end and found it to be quite good value for a 3 bedroom cottage/cabin (they call it an apartment). We constantly struggle to find accommodation for a family (sisters & mum) as most places in Stanthorpe only cater to couples. The resort is a little way out of town but the cabins have a full kitchen, campfire and BBQ facilities for self-catering. The wine tour picked up from the cabin which the resort managers organised for us which was great.

When we stayed, the weather was heading into the chilly season but not quite cold enough to use the wood burning fireplace (though I'm sure that would have been good). The bedding caters for winter so the doonas were a bit too warm for us though they had lighter blankets in the cupboards which were good.

There were only minor drawbacks to the place which included no mobile reception (to be expected given its location) but there was also no phone or way to contact managers on the other side of the lake so we couldn't organise food deliveries or taxi's, etc. but I'm sure the managers would help out if you could trek to the office. The kitchen facilities could be improved a little as well (i.e. provides coffee machine but no ground coffee), we had to wash all the glasses on arrival and there was no cheese knife (of course most places wouldn't have this but it's wine country so little extras would move this place up into the upper stratosphere of accommodation options). The bathroom needs some towel hooks as the bath towels were located on each bed on arrival but couldn't be hung up anywhere when wet (the rails in the bathroom had hand towels but would only fit 2 if these were removed, not enough for the 6 that could potentially stay in the cabin).

Overall very good and definitely worth the money paid (especially for families or groups of friends).
