“Local History Treasure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 December 2013

This is a very visible place as you drive into town - the Stanthrpe Museum. It is easy to se it and not bother to venture in but a look is well worth while. The Museum has archives of local people and migrant history outlining the Italian colonisation. The TIN mining history is traced out in the archives but also outside with some amazing displays of early mining. The Bushranger hiostory and Captain Moonlight is depicted also.
This place is worth a morning or afternoon visit and is kid friendly too.

“A good collection of regional history”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2013

You need a bit of spare time to look through the exhibits in this country town museum, as it is spread through a series of buildings and covers many aspects of the area's history. The buildings themselves are part of that preserved history. As a museum nut, all museums interest me. This one includes home wares, machinery, farm equipment, a PMG/Telstra hut of telephone equipment as well as geological samples of the area from Stanthorpe's (Tin Town's) mining past and much more. I would like to see better labelling with a bit more information but that may take more time and research than the volunteers who run the museum have to give, so no criticism of their sterling efforts.
