We stayed over the long weekend in June in a Timber Suite. The accommodation is VERY clean; the shower (even though water pressure low) is wonderfully hot; the wood fire is fabulous; and the staff are warm and helpful. The grounds are peaceful and have the bonus of also having kangaroos and ducks just trotting (?) around. The cooked breakfast provided on a Sunday morning (only) is one of the best we have had. The restaurant (which I will review separately also) is fantastic. Back to the accommodation - hmmm … unfortunately very dated; the couch (very small) is also uncomfortable; the bed is small and not particularly comfortable, and the pillows are definitely uncomfortable; the lighting is inadequate (and oddly positioned); the "breakfast hamper" is not very nice - supermarket bread, basic packs of butter, jams, etc. We think if they could improve on these types of issues, this place would rock! We would go back, but probably only mid-week as then it would prove good value for money.

Room Tip: If we return, we will definitely book a Cabin as opposed to a Suite as they are bigger and more priv...

We stayed as a couple for a long weekend in June in a cottage that had a spa, also (as expected) came with a fire place to keep warm and it did a great job at that. the cottages are spaced apart nicely to give a private feel even though you are not too far away from the office and main building where the brewery, bar, reception and restaurant are (separate review of this).
Check in was quick and easy and the lady who checked us in was very helpful by showing us around the bar and restaurant then showed us where our room was on a map, booked us a table for dinner and gave us a map of the local area.
The room was sufficient and had everything, but I kind of did expected a little more for the nightly price mainly in the way of a king size bed and a bbq outside would have been nice.
The retreat is well positioned not far from Stanthorpe if the need arises to stock up on supplies, easy access to the highway to get the wineries and all the places to visit.
I would recommend this place for couples either visiting by them selves or as a group, the brewery is great for a social drink and you can then go back to your cottage for some private peace and quite.
Breakfast was provided in the restaurant on Sunday morning and a hamper (continental) for the following morning.
I would go back as I loved the feel and atmosphere of the bar, it was very relaxing and the beers were great.

Saw Happy Valley on Wotif and the idea of the brewery onsite was a big selling point. Stayed mid-week with my sister for a winter beer lovers package, but also booked in for a wine tour. The cabin was nice and cosy, had the fire going almost as soon as we got there. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they really made you feel welcome, and the tour that was arranged on our behalf was a lot of fun. Have already recommended this to my friends as a place to get away for a couple of days. It was such a peaceful location, a great place to relax for a few days. Beer in front of the fire in the main bar area is a fantastic way to unwind!

Room Tip: The cabin was a good size for 2 people

Girls - it was an absolute pleasure having you stay with us!
Staying mid-week meant that the attractions in the Granite Belt were quieter which can be really good when you're on a tour.
Thanks for choosing us. We hope to see you again!

Thanks,

My husband and I stayed for one night as part of our little road trip. I'm so glad we stayed here. The brewery and restaurant are amazing! I can't wait to come back, hopefully with the rest of my family. The cabins are so cosy and I loved the breakfast basket. Wish we had stayed a little longer

Just spent the Queens Birthday weekend at Happy Valley Retreat and had a fabulous time. This is one of the friendliest places we have stayed, the rooms were clean and comfortable and there was plenty of firewood to keep us warm on the cold winter nights.
Spent a fair bit of time at the bar drinking the delicious beer they brew on sight and at meal times enjoyed the food in the restaurant; the venison was beautiful, tender and tasty. We stayed in cabin 12 which has a spa, a nice touch for a couples weekend away.
Every single staff member was really friendly. Highly recommend a visit to Happy Valley Retreat we will be going back out to Stanthorpe to stay there again.
