This cafe is set up in what used to be a branch of the Bank off New South Wales between 1912 to 1965. Inside are a very interesting range of snack lunches. We settled for some very delicious quiches and salads, eaten in the delightful secluded garden at the side. Our fellow diners seemed to feel the same about the quality of the food and service as us. As they left they stopped (as we did) to congratulate the ladies in the kitchen.

While in Australia we visited this lovely little place twice for breakfast. It was really nice. Ok service was a bit slow but I guess that was due to the fact that food was cooked fresh so it was worth the wait. Definitely worth a visit.

Heaps of fresh goodies. A favourite for breakfast or a call in for coffee and cake. A great range. Service can be a tad slow, but generally its when theres a large crowd to be fed.

When my husband and I walked into The Whistle Stop Cafe it looked promising. It had a very homey feel to it with what looked like decent food. We ordered the corned beef with pickle and the chicken Caesar salad. We walked outside and took a seat next to another couple waiting for their food. When their food finally came, the waitress turns to the gentleman and says "I know you ordered the pot pie, but we are out of it, so I just brought you a burger instead" and plopped the burger in front of him. You would think that if a restaurant is out of the food you ordered, someone would come and ask you what you would like instead. Anyway, it really did not concern me, but it was very unprofessional nonetheless. Luckily the guy was cool and ate the burger.
After waiting another 10-15 minutes or so, our food finally arrived. They presented the "corned beef and pickle" in the form of a sandwich that looked as if it were enough food for a two year old. The "corned beef" was nothing more than two very thin pieces of deli meat smooshed between two pieces of cheap store bought bread. Fine, whatever. She then proceeds to give us a chicken sandwich of some sort. We tell her that we ordered the Chicken Ceasar salad, and she excuses herself to go get the order fixed. Meanwhile, being completely famished, we swallow down the cheap corned beef in one or two bites. We wait for the salad. We wait longer. Another ten minutes go by. Another table gets their food, while we still wait. Finally, the waitress realized that we still had not received our order and goes to retrieve it. She comes back with a small bowl of sad lettuce with 2 or 3 small pieces of chicken(bite size) a little sprinkle of bacon, cheese, an egg and dressing. This salad cost $15! It was nothing more than a side salad that you would have with a steak dinner. The waitress does not apologize for the delay or inconvenience and goes about her oblivious way. Still starving, we gobble the side salad down after about a minute and leave the restaurant. We left feeling angry and hungry. Not recommended for your lovely stay in Yungaburra!
