Mt Quincan Crater Retreat
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 17 July 2013

My husband and I were keen to celebrate our 20th Anniversary in a special way. After much research of the truly wonderful 'Getaways' and places to stay in Far North Queensland, we chose Mt Quincan Retreat.

We spent 2 nights at this Retreat and found that it met our expectations, (and more), of a "Truly Great Experience" ...

Our hosts Barb & Kerry were not only exceptionally good hosts and very welcoming upon our arrival, but they made us feel that our stay in their Retreat would be very special. We were welcomed with a lovely basket-full of goodies such as freshly made scones, (with fresh cream and jam to add), a bottle of Champagne, and home-knitted socks to wear in our treehouse abode.

The tree-house accomodation we experienced was unique, interesting, extremely comfortable and an absolute joy to experience. The view from the balcony was absolutely breath-taking. It is hard to imagine a more breath-taking experience of the surrounding topography.

All amentities were of 5 star 'plus' quality, from the 'more than well-equipped' self-contained kitchen, the swivelling fireplace which was an absolute treat, (adding warmth to the kitchen, lounge area, bedroom area ... whichever area we moved to), to the very modern and fully equipped bathroom with two wash basins and enclosed shower recess, to the extremely large spa bath which was an absolutely fabulous treat, to the innovative/naturalist/exotic outdoor shower area, the 'more than' comfortable king size bed, the balcony equipped with tables and chairs but also a great BBQ which we found very useful, easy to use and upon which we cooked a main evening meal and lunch while there.

While there we were able to enjoy the surrounding flora, fauna and general area by taking walks, (maps for which were provided by our hosts), to the nearby crater, river and other areas. We saw beautiful butterflies, a plethora of birdlife, lots of cows, a number of different birds, frogs and ants.

While there, we also experienced the local 'wildlife' close-hand, given a number of possums throughout the night, and a couple of brush turkeys, throughout the day, decided to forage for food on our balcony, 'up close and personal'.

Our experience at this Retreat was so good that we are already planning our next stay there. We would recommend it to anyone looking for something special, different, of high quality, and unforgettable.

This was our second trip here and it is just as wonderful as our first!!!
We were here this time for our honeymoon and it is so peaceful and romantic!!! Every little detail has been taken into consideration and its all these little inclusions that set it well above anywhere else we have ever stayedWe didn't see any of the famous tree kangaroos this visit but many people on the days before us did so we will just have to keep coming until we do!! :)
We will definitely be back again!!!

This was our 3rd trip to Mt Quincan and as always we had a wonderful stay at this beautiful place. The hosts Kerry & Barb are excellent and made us feel very welcome at always. All the extras make Mt Quincan hard to resist. Very central location to the Tablelands and Surrounds. Great place to base your stay.

Room Tip: Would recommend the Tree Houses with Outdoor Shower

We were really looking forwards to our stay at Mt Quincan and it did not disappoint. Barb & Kerry were delightful hosts. The tree house was spacious and luxurious. We loved having a spa bath with a view and the revolving fireplace was perfect for the cold nights. All the little touches from the port to the hand knitted slipper socks were really thoughtful. The breakfasts supplied to cook at your leisure, the muffins on arrival and the kitchen supplies and equipment were fantastic.
We were woken by a tree climbing kangaroo on our balcony the first night and had possums visit the next night. Even the farm dog joined us for a walk. Could not have asked for more!
Thank you.

A truly wonderful week spent at Mt Quincan Retreat. We were celebrating our 10 year anniversary and my husbands 40th birthday and we wanted a place that was tranquil, quiet and beautiful. Everything is planned and presented beautifully. The accommodation is beautiful, the little touches are lovely - wine, choccies and little woolen socks. Beautiful breakfast to prepare at our leisure each day. Beautiful views and walking trails, lovely crisp fresh air. We saw 2 tree kangaroos, 2 possums and lots of birds.
Kerry and Barb are lovely people and nothing was too much trouble for them - can't wait to go back one day and would recommend this for any couple wanting a peaceful and quiet break. I read 3 novels in the week we were there, went bushwalking, visited the dairy's, went to Cairns and slept till 8.00am each day - wonderful!!!!!

From the moment you walk in, you feel relaxed. I never left the room for 2 days, everything I needed to cook with was there. The views are amazing, the rooms are perfect the way they are laid out & the hosts, Kerry & Barb, are hassle free. Just book it, you won't regret it.

My husband and I stayed at the Retreat on our last few days together before he went overseas. From the moment we pulled up to the moment we left we experienced such hospitality was amazing. The rooms were lovely and they thought of everything!! I would recommend the added extras they truly made it more special with roses on arrival on the door step to a cheese platter ready to go. It was a really memorable experience. I would recommend them completely. Thanks again!
