I stayed here during a study abroad trip and had a great experience! The food, tours, and facilities were amazing. I would absolutely stay here again. They made us feel right at home, even hosting a 4th of July party for us Americans on the 4th.

Incredible experience in all ways: favourite part of Australia, hands down! Our adventure began when we hopped on a bus in Cairns with an absolute gem of a man called Paul. With his playlist that PERFECTLY matched the journey, his hilarious and welcoming commentary, and his fun-loving activities, he took us round the beautiful rainforest, stopping to see the magnificent sights of the area, and showering us with chocolate. The staff are fantastically knowledgeable and have such a passion for what they do. Yungaburra is such a wonderful little place, and On The Wallaby feels like home instantly. Arriving at the beautiful log building, Paul said of a lady dashing about animatedly in the driveway: "There's Tracey, she'll be your Mum for your stay!" And so she was. Paul took off his bus-driver hat and hopped into the kitchen to help prepare some DELICIOUS sandwiches - the first of many INCREDIBLY TASTY home-cooked meals that we enjoyed while there. Paul later introduced himself as the owner of the whole shebang - what a magical man! The inside of the lodge is such a friendly, comfortable place, with comfy living areas, books and games, tea and coffee, amazing music, hammocks, and most importantly - a MASSIVE beanbag chair shaped like a platypus. Outstanding. Beautiful clean shower/washroom area, and comfortable lodging. Great resource for local activities, and also offers a wide range of amazing things to do: day or night canoeing, mountain biking, platypus spotting, waterfall visits - the list goes on. Never a dull moment. Paul, Tracey, and the staff go out of their way to connect with guests and make their stay absolutely extraordinary and unforgettable. The cherry on top? A wee black terrier called Boots that darts around on love-hunts. A fantastic place for all ages - we stayed here as a travelling high-school class and were treated like gold...some of our favourite days of the whole trip. Thank you for everything On The Wallaby! WE LOVE YOU!

This was probably one of my favourite parts of visiting Australia. On the Wallaby was just amazing. Paul and Tracey made the experience a cherry on top. I like the fact that we got close with the owners. The food was homemade cooking, with Tracey as your 'Mom' you feel at home. DEFINITELY going back in the future. The activities we did were so much fun, and Yungabarra is an amazing place to spend time. Cutest town. THANK YOU for such an amazing time On the Wallaby!

This was a great day out, from 8am to 7:30pm. We were picked up by our friendly bus driver and tour guide Bart. He set the atmosphere for the entire trip by setting a friendly environment between all the people on board. It was mainly a backpacker tour and we were the only Australians on board.

We spent the morning walking through the rainforest. We visited the amazing cathedral fig tree and then went on a one hour hike throughout the forest with Bart pointing out all the interesting aspects.

This was followed by a picnic lunch, which was average but was a fun time. In the afternoon we visited volcanic crater lakes and two spectacular waterfalls where we went for a chilly swim.

Tea was provided at the lodge and this was followed by platypus spotting. We were lucky enough to spot a platypus who entertained us for a good 20 minutes.

The bus ride back was enjoyable with everybody singing along to songs. The windy roads did not affect on the way back, however of you are prone to motion sickness, take some anti-sickness medication prior to starting the journey.

This place is great. Nice facility and awesome activities offered. Paul, the owner and guide, is heaps of fun and will probably make your day about ten times a day. It is a hostel, and space is not what you're coming here for, but the small room is made up for by plenty of communal space. There is a platypus bean bag, I kid you not. Highly recommend this place

great hostel, friendly staff and guests and lovely family feel to it. very clean but cute and cosy, we had a great 2 nights here and wished we could have stayed longer! our 6 bed dorm room was comfortable and the showers were great. good BBQ put on by the hostel in the evenings, if not the kitchen has all the utensils and little bits you could ever need.

we also did the night kayak the hostel do each evening to see the wildlife and saw tree kangaroos and wallabies etc. this was great fun and lead by Sarah on reception (who was great our whole stay)

highly recommend this place, it's a true gem!
