“Littler dissapointed”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

Have dined at the Lane on several occasions. Food is excellent and wines acceptable. On last occasion we lunched with some friends and were regaled with continuous screaming from an overindulged child who threw food around the room whole doting parents looked on. Staff quietly cleaned up floor but no request was made to curtail child's behaviour. Other diners were not impressed. For nearly a $500 bill I think diners are entitled to a quite dining experience. This is not a venue for infants.

We apologise for not managing this situation to your satisfaction. Young children do visit The Lane Vineyard with their parents and in most instances are well behaved and their parents considerate of other visitors. The day you visited the situation was compounded by the deck being closed due to renovations and it being cold and wet outside. This made it more difficult than usual to distract or move the child. We hope you and your friends will forgive us and come by again sometime.

“An amazing experience”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

My wife and I wnet for my birthday cewlebration. We arrived and told them we only had 2 and a 1/2 hrs as we had to pick up kids after school, and aslo we were limited due to driving on how much we could drink.
The ? manager Simon suggested the chef pick a series of courses and he would match wines but only serve amounts that would be safe to drive.
In all we tried 10 great wines and were served with so many amazing dishes- what a great idea for other wineries to consider- one of the best degustation menus we have had ever, esp with the small 'tastings' that Simon matched with the food.
So many highlights, but we both agreed the cerviche of tuna, pork on the bone and blue swimmer ravioli with pepper sauce were our faves, but all the courses were brilliant.
Do yourself a favour and go there- and order the degustation- let the chef decide for you.

“A perfect afternoon with friends”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

The Lane is the "worth a special journey" restaurant in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. In a spectacular modern building that respects its gorgeous setting, you will find a warm welcome, enthusiastic, professional and unpretentious service, inspired cooking and wines (many by the glass) sourced from the vineyards that surround you. Perhaps the best restaurant in South Australia. And, yes, the pork belly is outstanding.

Thank you for a wonderful review that will no doubt inspire others to come and spend the afternoon with friends. Good company, a contemplative glass of wine and good food just make the world seem a better place. Glad it was worth a special journey.

“Great wine, disappointing food”
Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

I dined here for a wonderful Sunday lunch with my wife, her cousins family (husband and their two toddlers). There was no kids menu which I wasn't surprised at, however the waitress suggested a side of chips which we very delicious and crispy. Our waitress was very rude regarding the menu choices. One member of our party does not like medium rare steak and asked if the beef fillet or kangaroo would be able to be cooked medium well. We were told approximately three times that the chef only recommends it to medium rare. Although I agree with the chef, we are the customer and when it comes to steak you cook it to how the customer likes it, simple. I found the waitress to have been quite frustrated with this request, sadly she did not hide this frustration.

Our party of four ordered the kangaroo x2, beef fillet and the pork belly. The beef fillet, even though asked for medium well was cooked medium rare. I must admit it looked good. The two serves of kangaroo was cooked medium well, ruined the dish. It wasn't tender as it should be, however it did have good flavours. The highlight was the pork belly. Wow. Amazing, easily the best meal.

I would recommend ordering lunch then doing the wine tasting as we waited 50 minutes for our lunch.

If it wasn't for the pork belly been so incredibly amazing our lunch would have been a bad experience. Although overall my experience wasn't great at The Lane, I won't be forgetting that pork belly anytime soon!

Thank you for your review that describes rather well a relatively common dilemma. What you the customer prefers, in terms of how you like your meat cooked, doesn't always fit with how the Chef believes it is best presented, As you said, it is for the customer to decide. The young woman who looked after your table apologises for appearing rude and frustrated, neither was intended.
As a team we have had discussions about how to manage these situations better.

“All Class”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

Our wedding anniversary happened to be on a beautiful autumn day so we decided to celebrate in the Adelaide Hills. We had been meaning to try The Lane for some time so this seemed to be the right day. The staff were a credit to the establishment . When they realised we were celebrating they presented a bottle of their Champagne (sorry I’m not supposed to call Australian bubbles Champagne)The meal was excellent and when we asked of we could take our sweets outside on the verandah that to was arranged without a fuss.
The view and ambience are superb. South Australians are blessed to be able to have such a choice of restaurants. If we want to dine in a glorious rural setting we have The Lane - If we would like to dine overlooking a magnificent beach we have The Star of Greece.

A beautiful Autumn day, your anniversary and a glass of bubbles (think we can say that irrespective of the origin). Seems you caught more than a little of the romance of the Adelaide Hills. We are so pleased you had a lovely day and yes in South Australia we are spoilt for choice in so many ways. Come by again some time.
