“a fine B&B”
Reviewed 21 July 2007

First review despite the fact that we have stayed at Goodwin House a few times. The place is a beautiful old house near Burton's town center. We enjoyed everything: the hospitality, the food and the accommodations.

Breakfasts are always enjoyable and filling (no need for lunch that day). During our last stay the breakfast included coffee, fresh fruit, a smoothie, waffles and bacon. Tom or Robyn are likable folks who are gracious hosts and good cooks.

Improvements made to the old rooms seem like a natural fit. We especially like the spacious bathroom with shower and separate two-person tubs. Keeping the original wood floors was a good compliment to the additions. The bed is fantastically soft and comfortable.

Highly recommended!

My husband and I stayed at the Goodwin House one weekend night as part of a longer escape that we took to the Cleveland area. In a nutshell, stay here! My husband and I are tough customers- but we can tell you that this inn is lovely- the rooms are well appointed and pretty, the innkeepers are friendly and very professional and the town itself is adorable and within walking distance from the inn.

As my husband and I are not from the Burton area, Robyn (one of two innkeepers) provided us with some great recommendations for activities (I wanted to do some shopping at the local Amish homes). Her recommendations were good. When we got the inn, we got a full tour of the beautiful, historic inn. The house is incredible and Robyn is very knowledgeable about the history- she was able to point out some really cool features. Also, the furnishings and the antiques in the house give it a really great cozy feel.

Late night, we had crème brulee that Tom (the other innkeeper) had just made. Yum! The Jacuzzi tub and fireplace in our room was the perfect end to a great day!

Breakfast the next day was also fantastic- we had fresh fruit, a smoothie and French toast (on homemade bread) with local syrup. Ask for the French toast if you get a breakfast choice!

My husband and I are lucky enough to not have dietary restrictions, but other guests did have dietary restrictions and the innkeepers went above and beyond to meet their needs as well. Their diet food looked (almost) as good as our full fat fare!

I can’t say enough good things about this inn. Tom and Robyn were welcoming, great hosts and our room was perfect. Loved the house, loved the Jacuzzi, loved the electric fireplace. Our entire experience at Goodwin House was perfect. Go!

  • Liked — The inn itself and the surrounding area.
  • Disliked — I can't think of anything.

Nice old inn near the county fairgrounds. We enjoyed the room and air conditioning (boy, it was a hot in Ohio that weekend!) Nicely located near the "sugar shack" in Burton's center - their maple syrup making facility and store. Breakfast was delicious and the gentleman was very helpful and polite. Highly recommended.

Our family recently made a visit to Burton, Ohio for a two night stay and had a wonderfully relaxing time. My husband was doing some work at Century Village, a collection of historic buildings (like Deerfield, Henry Ford Museum) run by the Geauga Historical Society. Burton is a little treasure, and very New England like. We took our daughter and her friend, both 13, and we had plenty to see and do for 2 1/2 days.

I was surprised how much the girls were happy to go antiquing at several great little antiqe shops, art galleries, etc. They loved the maple candy from the Maple Cabin in the town square. They adored the animals at Century Village and posing for funny photos on the train tracks in front of the old depot there.

We stayed at the Goodwin House B&B and Robyn and Tom were wonderful inn keepers. They gave us a tour from basement to attic of the house. There are two well-appointed rooms, each with their own large bathroon and huge jacuzzi. Breakfast was amazing both days - great fresh fruit smoothies. Goodwin House is a few steps from downtown making in very convienent for evening walks and dinner. The girls brought bathing suits and enjoyed a jacuzzi one night.

Speaking of dinner we had a fun dinner at Cogan's Family Restaurant, where they had, just days before, eliminated smoking. Good job!! The owner stopped at our table and made us fell very welcome. The next night we ate at Joel's Italian American Grill where the front enclosed porch was "smoking" - so we could not enjoy the view of the Burton Square, we ate inside, very dinerish family-like casual atmosphere. Joel stopped by our table and we again were made very welcome. Service was a little slow but food was good.

On Wednesday night downtown Burton, Ohio fills with hot rods and it is a true piece of Americana. The cars were fantastic. The girls played arcade games, loved the hot rods, and the hired d.j. played great 50's music on the sidewalk. It was a wonderful summer evening.

The girls also asked to do a little more antiquing before we left Ohio, so we stopped in Chardon, Ohio and went to a great antique shop "Antiques on the Square" and found wonderful real photo postcards. Parents and girls both enjoyed that stop alot. Three floors of antiques with a good selection.

PS Burton - please don't paint the watertower to look like a stack of pancakes or tear the building next to the firestation down. You've got too many good things going for you.
