Great place to go with the kids. Lots to do, swimming and arts and crafts, plenty of play areas. Staff was great with a food allergy with one of the kids, cooked meals perfectly. Would recommend and go back again.

Room Tip: We stayed at the lodge, which was close to the pool, would like to go back and try out one of the ca...

I would rate this a 5 star hotel...This is an extremely clean lodge with many activities for all ages. (Volleyball, tennis, basketball, shuffleboard, swimming, golf, game room.) They offer many planned activities for kids off all ages, tied dyed T-shirts, sand candle making, coloring etc. (At least when we went during the summer months- check with the lodge during school months.) I loved the fact they have a free bonfire for all every other evening which includes a free marshmallow roast. (Not many people showed up which made it perfect to relax & enjoy the fire.) Went on a few hiking trails & enjoyed them too. All rooms have a nice sized small freezer & refrigerator in the room. The microwave can be found by the indoor pool. "To go" orders in the restaurant is priced right. Food is delicious both for the restaurant & carryout orders. They also have a two romantic secluded areas with fireplaces (you push a button to turn on the fireplace..) to relax... Fantastic atmosphere both indoors & outdoors. Plan to return soon!!!

Room Tip: Did not order room service or go to the spa...

My stay at the salt fork was overall okay. The daily activities were aimed at kids under 10. The cabins had a great location but there was profanity written all over the bunk beds. Also the blankets appeared dirty. Do not stay during shark week because there is no discovery channel. The restaurant timbers is awful! The hostess was inattentive and couldn't handle the amount of tasks assigned to her. It took 20 minutes just to put our name on the list. There were many tables left unbussed with breakfast plates after the restaurant reopened for lunch. In the end the food was not that bad but, the poor service will keep me from returning.

Very nice accomodations. We had a King size room and the bed was extremely soft and comfortable! Room was very clean! Restaurant was pricey and food was not that good. Grounds and Lodge were quiet and clean.

We were excited to stay at Salt Fork for an adult stay away from the kids. The pool looked great and we planned to golf. Upon check-in, we went to our assigned room and I immediately noticed the terrible housekeeping of the place. There were huge cobwebs in all the rafters of the high ceiling. The one by the sliding door b/w the valance and the wall had tons of dead bugs in it...so it'd been there a while. THere was a dead bug on the floor by the door too. Ugh! I could not sleep in such a room especially for that much money! The front desk was very accomodating and promised to have the housekeeping manager check the next room before we went in. It was right next to the first room. When we entered, she was leving with a small broom in hand. There were STILL cobwebs in this room too...better, but still not acceptable. Then there was bug flying around in the room and a few spiders on the bed! Probably fell from the knocked down cobwebs. On our way to the front desk to demand a refund and leave, I pointed out MANY cobwebs to my husband on the large light in the hallway, the windows over the pool, the windows over the dining room, etc. I get that this is an older place and it's a lodge, but it is in real need of a deep cleaning. I would shudder to think of my children crawling around on the floor in this place. Stay away!

Xanterra, Manager at Salt Fork Lodge and Conference Center, responded to this review, 20 August 2012
Thank you for sharing the experience of your recent visit to Salt Fork Lodge. I am very sorry to hear that the cleanliness was not up to acceptable standards. Not only should all areas of the lodge, including guest rooms, be clean—they should be immaculate! It is certainly understandable that you didn’t want to spend your money on a room and lodge that had not been properly cleaned. While we strive to keep all areas clean and cobweb and pest-free, we obviously have been missing some very important areas.

I have reviewed your concerns with our Housekeeping Manager and support staff, and it is our mission to ensure that we are covering every area thoroughly from this point forward. I am confident that if our staff is looking high and low and cleaning floor to ceiling in these areas, we will not have further issues like the ones you experienced on your short visit here. I hope that we can earn a future visit from you so you can enjoy the many activities and amenities that you hoped to experience on your recent getaway. Please let me know, at your convenience, if we can discuss in more detail on the phone. We truly do offer our sincere apology for your unsatisfactory visit to Salt Fork Lodge.

Sincerely,
Mark Hanes

We have a large family with plans each year for getting together for a week in the summer. We always have to have the Hospitality Suite for congregating indoors + were pleased with the remodel; is beautiful! Since we have all ages - from 4 weeks old to one in a wheelchair - we have found Salt Fork can accommodate each. We stay in the Lodge for proximity of the rooms.
The Restaurant food is excellent (few years ago we couldn't say that). We especially enjoy the wildlife - deer, momma raccoon and her babies; family nature hikes, crafts+games+activities, bonfires; gorgeous scenery - woods + lake; and golfing. Beautiful outdoor pool with lifeguard (weather was great! didn't need to use the indoor pool this year!)

Room Tip: Depends on those in your group. We needed ground floor for all the youngsters + the wheelchair in th...
