Our stay at the Hearthstone was very pleasant and enjoyable. The rooms were extremely clean and tastefully decorated, while the lobby had lots of historical artifacts to view. The continental breakfast had a great variety of selections. The owner was so friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. They also offer bike rentals for the bike path that goes by the property. We were there to view Cedarville University, and it is just one mile down the street.

Thank you, AnneBart, for your kind remarks. We are as delighted to have happy guests as you were in having an enjoyable stay!

As an independent country hotel, our goal has always been to provide accommodations surpassing the "brand names" in cleanliness and comfort, as well as making one's stay an enriching experience. At Hearthstone Inn & Suites, we've blended Victorian, country, and lodge motifs together to create a distinctive warmth. Our museum-quality historic displays showcase local history and the Civil War period - a guest favorite. We strive to be helpful, friendly and informative - especially since there is so much to do and explore in our area, including the popular "college road trip"campus visit (Cedarville U being just 90-seconds away; Central State and Wilberforce 5 minutes; Antioch 10 mins. and Wittenburg 15 mins). Being adjacent to the longest paved bike trail in the U.S. is also a benefit to those who enjoy cycling. No bike? No problem. We can do that too! Even a bicycle-built-for-two is available to rent! Then, at Christmas time, Hearthstone Inn & Suites becomes magical with our always-changing seasonal decor.

We look forward to seeing you again in the future! And do tell your friends!

Pros: The Hearthstone was immaculately clean, nicely appointed and the staff was efficient and friendly. The breakfast was good with plenty of choices, served in a pleasant atmosphere with a fire in the hearthstone fireplace. It was quiet, there was plenty of parking. Handicap notice: there is no elevator to the 2nd floor, but there are safety bars for the tub in the regular room we stayed in on the 1st floor. There were plenty of towels and washcloths as well as 2 extra pillows and an extra blanket. Small sample-size bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash were supplied. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom. Plenty of closet space for 2 or 3 people. Good, strong internet service. The weather was nice, so we kept our windows open for fresh air--our room overlooked a grassy area with shade trees and a privacy fence, s a pleasant view. On both floors, there are large glass cases with Civil War memorabilia. There is a small gift shop on the first floor, a small game room on the 2nd floor.
There is a casual, family-friendly restaurant right across the street with a wide-variety menu, specialty pies and very reasonable prices. Also a Subway and pizza place are very close by.
It's a quick 10-12 minutes drive to Yellow Springs.

On the "con" side: there was no place to hang damp towels. Usually no big deal, but they put a card under your door where you can check that you want to help save mother earth by reusing your towels. The card is a little heavy handed, implying you are not a good person if, for over $100 per night you might want your towels changed or your room straightened. Also for those of you who want the ambiance of a genuine B&B: this is not a B&B. It is a full service motel that was built twelve years ago with an entrance-way that gives the impression (particularly on the website photo) of looking like a house. It is not a house with extra rooms attached, it was built as a full size motel in the first place.

All-in-all a very, very nice motel, exceptionally clean throughout. Recommended for couples, families who are spending a few days in the area, parents visiting Cedarville U. students.

Room Tip: No elevator to 2nd floor rooms.

Hi Melinda! We are so grateful for nice reviews from glowing guests! Thank you!

It is also from our guests that we occasionally get insightful "pointers" for ways in which we can improve the services of our inn. Just to clarify for those future guests looking for lodging in our area, we are not a "full service" property (as those with restaurants and such). Neither are we a typical motel or a B&B. As an independent "country inn" our objective is to offer the amenities of a "limited service hotel" with the ambiance of of a B&B. The unique design of our country inn was created to fit in with a small-town, 19th century architecture. We truly appreciate you pointing this out, since we are occasionally "passed by" as incoming guests are looking for a typical hotel/motel made of stucco and glowing with neon signs! Hearthstone is different by design. We also appreciate your comments with regards to our being "immaculately clean'. Travelers reviewing lodging properties are sometimes startled by past comments about a property's cleanliness - here at Hearthstone, "cleanliness" is "job one"! Or is it tied with "friendliness"!....

As a direct result of your observation, we have taken immediate steps to improve our bathroom towel rack availability in order to accommodate those who would like to use towels a second time. We do, in fact, already have towel double-hooks on the backs of all bathroom doors, but these can be easily missed. By your next stay, you'll have plenty of towel-rack space!

Thanks again, and we do hope to see you during your next visit to our area!

Hubby and I stayed in the spa suite, and I can't recommend it enough! It was so very clean, spacious, and fun! We didn't stay for breakfast because I need protein and it looked like more of a continental breakfast (we went to the Sunrise Cafe instead which I would highly recommend with its local, fresh offerings). The staff was very nice at Hearthstone and the room had lots of amenities and luxuries! We just wish we could have stayed longer...

We are very appreciative of your nice review! As a family-owned, independent inn we are keenly aware of the importance of cleanliness. Also, our location in a wonderfully quiet, small town (which is surrounded by many things to do) is certainly an added "plus" - especially with the famous Little Miami Bike Trail / Ohio-to-Erie Bike Trail which runs right alongside our inn. Our Jacuzzi King Suites (the room type which you selected) were recently upgraded with elegant fireplaces and big-screen HD theater systems - it sure sounds like you enjoyed them!

Proteins are always part of our breakfast selections, with assorted yogurts, chilled & peeled hard-boiled eggs, and sausage patty biscuits - as well as our usual cinnamon rolls, danish, muffins, bread items, tropical fruit salad, and cereals / milk . We are so sorry that you missed seeing these protein items. In fact, for our guests who are lactose-intolerant - or have gluten-free needs - we can provide these items too - we only need to be asked in advance (prior to check-in). Soy, coconut, and almond milk are available, as well as Kashi / organic cereals. We'll try to do a better job of letting our guests know about these options. We do hope to see you again!

We have stayed at the Hearthstone Inn 4-5 times in the last few years. The staff is friendly and the rooms quite nice.
The breakfast is very good.
The best feature for me is the cleanliness. They keep it so clean and well kept in and around the property.

Hey Susie K! Thanks so very much for your kind words! Cleanliness is one of the hallmarks of Hearthstone Inn & Suites of course, and when a guest notices - it surely makes our day! Our housekeeping staff takes great pride in showing off our property and they take it as their "mission". So - we've shared your nice review and they are smiling ear-to-ear! We are also upgrading our landscaping around the property, so that our guests can feel relaxed even BEFORE setting foot inside the entrance. We do hope that you will be returning in the near future so that we can see the nice changes! Best wishes!

This time I came with my parents to visit our daughter at the university. It is sad that our next trip will be our last since our daughter graduates in less than a month. The innkeepers are very hospitable and try (and usually succeed) to meet your special requests.

Hi ghodecker! Thank you for sharing your kind thoughts with us! Indeed, being located to a popular university here in Cedarville, OH means that we have the privilege of hosting families for upwards of 4-5-6 years or more. Then the day comes for that last graduation....it IS difficult! On a positive note - there are always homecoming events each year! So...while our guests (who have become friends!) may not need to visit as often - there will still be opportunities to stay at Hearthstone Inn & Suites in the future! So....we shall look forward to you next visit and the hopeful diminishing of those college costs! Thanks again!
