“The best cocktails and ambiance in Cleveland”

The VTR is without a doubt the best cocktail bar in the Cleveland area. The bartenders know how to mke the real cocktails, not a watered down version that has been simplified for mass consumption. They use the best ingredients and often produce their own when certain items aren't available on the market.

In addition, they usually have a Jazz combo or a jazz piano playe as well.

However, it's not cheap, at normally $14 per drink. Still, if you want a very classy place. This is it.

If it's your first time, it may be a bit off putting as the location and front of the building is plain to say the least.

Once the doors opened at 6pm on a Saturday night in March, we stepped in and felt as though we'd been transported back in time. Back in time to a classy speakeasy where liquor is not just an afterthought, but the main ingredient in a cocktail so craftily made, you don't mind the $16+ price tag. You wait about 10 minutes for your drinks, but they're well worth it. Highly recommend that every Clevelander experience this place at least once. Plan on sipping your drink with your pinky up, enjoying every sip, tasting the mingling flavors, appreciating the skill of the uber-friendly bartenders. Highly recommend The French 75 with brandy and the Tom Collins. Looking forward to trying different cocktails next time!

My wife and I had a very enjoyable night here before Christmas. It was very busy, and the bartender was shorthanded. But she made up for it in excellent service and just being a great bartender. We enjoyed some homemade egg nog before diving into the fantastic cocktails. As the holiday crowd thinned, the people at the bar settled into some great conversations. The whole vibe is fantastic.

If you like to mix cocktails and talk about liquor, this is the place to visit in Cleveland. It has been featured in the most recent New York Times "36 Hours in Cleveland" review for its homemade bitters and speakeasy atmosphere.

It's located on the edge of Tremont, just a few minutes drive from the Market District (West Side Market, Great Lakes Brewery, etc.). It actually has been a cocktail lounge for only about 15 years, according to one of the bartenders, but from the outside it certainly could pass as a speakeasy (I'm not certain it ever was a speakeasy), or at least as a very low-key neighborhood bar. The inside is cozy, if not intimate.

Visited with an out-of-town friend who likes to mix cocktails and he viewed the visit as worthwhile just for a couple tips he picked up and for the informed banter.

Our cocktails were about $15 each, which would have been more justified if we had stayed for the nightly entertainment. There is at least a piano player every night beginning at 9 p.m., according to a bartender.

If you would like cocktails and piano music in a speakeasy atmosphere, definitely worth a visit!

My husband and I loved the place the second we walked in. The staff was very friendly, the music was great and it had a really classy atmosphere. Over the course of the evening, we ordered two drinks a piece off of the drink menu and they were very good. However, I have two warnings if you plan on going. First, the price of the drinks is outrageous at $15 a piece. Did they forget they are located in Cleveland? We only ordered drinks off of the menu so I don’t know if all the drinks were as expensive. Second, they do use raw egg whites in some of their drinks. My first drink was this way and I didn’t mind it but some people may.
