Was this my first time at a Bob Evans? I think it may have been. It was around 9:30pm, and I didn't want to deal with the restaurants near the hotel. I just wanted cheap, quick, comfort food, so I thought I'd try this. Soup and/or sanwich to take back to the hotel?
I ended up ordering the stuffed banana pancakes with pecans and caramel syrup. (I like to make banana pancakes at home) This sounded like the right combination of breakfast for dinner and dessert, all in one dish. I was a little bit worried when I found out it was the cook's 1st time making banana pancakes. This was in addition to being skeptical about whether it was a practical choice for carryout. And I was also thinking, "it's a chain, don't expect too much." (Yes, I know, I have a bias against fast food.)
Those pancakes were unbelievably good! I could only finish part of the dish, but oh man! did that part go down well!
Also, as I found with most places in Columbus, the staff was really pleasant to deal with. The manager went back to help the cook with his first banana pancakes; the server giggled and reassured me that they were worth the wait. And then we chatted for a few minutes about my knitting and her quilting.
I just might try Bob Evans again next time I'm on the road. This one turned out to be a pleasant surprise.
