Most of my reviews have been positive, but this one, unfortunately, is not. The Doubletree Columbus has a wonderful view out on the river which, through no fault of their own, is undergoing construction on both sides of the river, thereby making the view a little less desirable. First the positive; the fitness room is outstanding as it is a health club accessible to non-guests as well as guests. Continental breakfast is served in a different room than traditional breakfast, which is fine but a bit odd. The rooms are well appointed, plenty of space, easily accessible and plentiful power outlets and the bed was comfortable. Now the not so positive;

1) There are only two elevators for the entire hotel and of those, only 1 was working with no apparent maintenance in progress on the other resulting in often long waits
2) No problem, because I like to take the stairs for exercise anyway. They worked without problem, but they were pretty filthy with cigarette butts and other trash on several landings.
3) The AC in the room worked fine, but only after I realized that the “auto” fan was not working and I had to set it on manual. Even then, I had to set the temperature at 65 to get the room to cool to 74.
4) The sheets on the bed had stains which is kind of gross.
5) There was a musty smell in the corridor outside of my room.
6) There was a hole in the carpet in my room.
7) Though I am a Diamond member, I was charged for Internet access, which was promptly removed when I alerted them to this.
8) Also, as a Diamond member, I was not given the normal breakfast coupon, also easily remedied, but nevertheless another minor gripe.
9) Very minor gripe, but they do advertise warm cookies and the cookie was pretty close to room temperature.

Yes, all of these issues are relatively minor, but taken together, they are an indication, to me, that management is either not training their staff properly or that they are not investing in the quality and standards normally associated with Doubletree Hotels.

I have stayed at several other Hilton properties in the Columbus area which have all been fine and I am likely to do so again, instead of this hotel, on future visits to Columbus.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view

I used to stay here often about 7 years ago. So when other hotels were full I went ahead and reserved a room here. I was so disappointed. The air conditioning did not work and I called the front desk and they sent maintenance up to my room two times. They told me they had not had a problem with the AC but after looking on trip advisor I see that they have. They said they could not switch my room. The coffee pot in the room did not work, so I went to the restaurant and got a cup of coffee. I went to my room and added the cream to my coffee and the cream was spoiled. So decided on ice water. I went to the ice machine and it was broken. I then went to their "store" and they gave me an orange juice. This is by far the worst Hilton hotel I have ever stayed in. I stayed on 5/20/14 and thankfully it was just one night. The next time I am in that city and there are no hotels except for this one I will take my chances with a Motel 6, at least you do not have the expectations from them as you do from Hilton. In addition to all of the above, there are not directional signs within the hotel. You have no idea where anything is located and the pillows provided on the bed smelled bad. I'm usually easy to please, but this was beyond terrible. =(

The room itself was nice. - Key card didn't consistenly work. Had to try several times. Parking was very expensive and puzzling for the guest. Another, guest had parked at another garage by mistake. The garage seemed unsafe. There was no visble attendant when I arrived or departed. To be fair, did advertise an escort service. There is also no ATM machine, so difficult to tip staff in cash. In room dining was quick. Broken iron in room burnt a hole in my dress. Decided to cut my losses. Housekeeping could be better; not terrible, not detailed enough; smears on mirror, tub not crisply clean - I cleaned thoroughly myself. Unlikely I would use this property again.

$22 parking charge for downtown Columbus, OH. Really? AUTOMATIC 22% gratuity added for bar and restaurant tab. Shocking! Won't eat there again. $10 for WIFI...sadly. Rooms are nice and big...perhaps too big?

HVAC doesnt work right, nickel and dime you for parking, internet, etc. Seem like they were more interested in billing you for everything than making it actually worth the money. 1/4 of the elevators didnt work. Room temp was 78 degrees when I entered and then meeting rooms were more than 80 degrees...if you can stay anythwere else, do it.
