The Staff at the Blackwell goes the extra mile to make your stay comforting. The price is very reasonable compared to surrounding hotels. However, the other hotels do not have the Bistro to dine at. The food there is superb. If you are booking for an event at Ohio State, book early. The word is out on this gem. Be sure to take advantage of the Valet parking.

Room Tip: I have only stayed here twice, but both times my rooms were exceptional.

If you are coming to Columbus around the OSU area, you need to stay here! It was clean, the staff was friendly, and it was just an extremely nice hotel. It had the best bed I have ever slept on in a hotel, and that is a big deal to me! It was very close to the horseshoe, so if you're coming down for a football game I would suggest staying here!

The hotel was great, it was filled with friendly professional staff and the room were perfect for my group. The hotel is located next to all the important building at OSU and close to the interesting places that OSU has to offer. It was an overall great experience.

For a 'conference' hotel did not expect this level of service and style. From checkin to food - all outstanding. It takes a lot to get me to give up stay credits at a branded hotel, but this one (esp. if doing business with OSU) is the one. The last time I had my ice bucket filled as part of room turn down service was certainly at a much higher price point. Free wifi outstanding ... and rooms totally set to get business done, but also have a good time. Just outstanding.

I really liked the Blackwell, but maybe not for the same reasons as some. Yes, the lobby is quite nice, and the rooms are well-equipped. Ours was on the third floor and overlooked the road leading away from campus. We could see people outside, and that’s always a plus. The beds were very comfortable and sealed tight with airproof, bug-proof mattress bags. For folks paranoid about bed bugs and cognizant of the fact that Columbus was ranked two years ago as the nation’s bed bug capital, this little amenity was a big plus. Also, the towels were soft, the white robes (which we didn’t use) smacked of excellence, the green glycerin and white curved bath soaps were ideal for their intended tasks, and the shower water pressure was excellent. There was even a pull down service every night with accompanying Lindt truffles! The windows opened for fresh air, and the shower pressure was strong. However, the blinking light on the smoke detector – to remind us every 15 seconds that it was still functional – was a royal pain in the middle of the night. It felt as if I was in a slow motion strobe light scene or being subjected to a form of primitive sleep deprivation torture. Please, Blackwell, turn these off!

Service at the hotel was quite professional with the exception of the glitch we experienced upon arrival at CMH. The Blackwell had told us to grab any Orange cab for a $20 flat rate to the hotel, but the airport folks insisted this was only available when booked in advance. This caused confusion and frustration in the wee hours of the morning. The Blackwell acted confused and pointed fingers back to the Orange Cab, but they did offer breakfast coupons and a slight bill adjustment, so I’ll give them a mulligan. More importantly, the bulk of the staff, with the exception of management, is students. For prospective families checking out the university, it’s great to be surrounded by OSU students who are well-spoken, cordial, eager to please, and happy to share their impressions of the school. This includes the waiters, waitresses, and omelet makers at the restaurant (which was excellent, by the way, including the made to order cappuccino in a tall glass mug) as well as the complimentary chauffeurs who’ll take you anywhere you want within a three mile radius. These are the same drivers who go to and from the airport. One day, they made an exception and took us downtown Columbus for us to visit the State House.

We paid $119 with AAA discount. It’s comparable to surrounding hotels … maybe a wee bit more. Sure, you don’t have a pool, but for the day or two you’ll be around, it’s not a big deal. Plus, you won’t need a car to get to and from campus. The engineering building, for example, is a stone’s throw away.

Highly recommended.
