Fort Island/Griffiths Park & Learning Resource Center

We were here for a swim meet. IT is a nice pool. Great for recreational swimming. Very nice pool and grounds. Not a great pool for a swim meet. Lanes are longer than normal and there is not enough room on the deck for spectators. But otherwise a very nice pool.

The boarded path is fairly flat, some of the trail is on a hill but not too steep. The dirt trails are easy to follow and loop back the boarded path. Lots of the forest, thus lots of animals and bugs. The playground is nice there are always kids there. I've also seen a few people picnicking. The park is not busy as it is tucked back into a neighborhood off any main roads but is very easy to get to and has plenty of parking. A couple co workers and I walk there during lunch.

There is an easy walking trail on an elevated Boardwalk through the peat bogs and woods. It's very green and lush. You may want to wear a bug spray. There weren't many mosquitoes in May, but I'm sure that changes as the summer goes on. There is a Learning Resource center with a few small animals reptiles and birds. There are restrooms in the resource center and port-a-pots near the tennis courts if the resource center is closed. There's a very nice playground for small children. It's in the city of Fairlawn, tucked back in a neighborhood.

When my kids were young twenty years ago it was a lot of fun. Now I take the grand-kids and it is better today. I would highly recommend this for grandma & grandpa. Go and enjoy the entire scene.

This is a fantastic park for those with children and those without children.

The combined park sits on around 60 acres, much of it wetlands. There is an elevated boardwalk and paved trails to walk through the park and keep you above the water-logged portions of the park (unless there have been very heavy rains). I found the area very peaceful to walk through.

If you're looking for more excitement, the park also has basketball and tennis courts. There is a large playground for children and off the parking lot to the playground is the Learning Resource Center, which I have not visited yet. There is supposed to be educational displays and some small animals inside the center.
