“A panoramic view of the hills”

Bijli Mahadev had been in my bucket list since the first time i had visited Manali. Having heard about it a lot, we decided we will make a visit to this place soon. Finally this time we planned a trek to BIjli Mahadev. Since we were staying in Kais, our trek plan from kullu changed into off-roading in the Gypsy via Kais Sanctury. Although the ride shook us completely we don't regret it a bit. this ride will take you through a beautiful jungle also known as kais sanctuary. you can take breaks from the difficult ride and just walk a bit for sometime before resuming the ride. But beware there might be animals around since its a sanctuary. Nevertheless the walk is worth the risk :)
After two hours of that ride what awaits you is a beautiful panoramic view on top of the hill with a small temple surrounded by greenry all around.
After visiting the temple, we just sat at the vast lush green grass overlooking the entire Kullu valley, bhuntar airport. While one side you can see Beas, the other side of the temple gives you a view of Parvati valley.
The temple is one of the oldest and has a very unique story attached to it.
Unlike other temples, its clean and not crowded. Since both the trek and the ride is a little difficult hence not many people around.
After your visit to the temple, you can have some nice meals at the food joints there.
Incase interested, you can also hire tents there for night camping.

while going back we decided to trek down from the other way in order to have the taste of both the sides.
The trek down is easier than the ride as there are steps made and you just have to keep stepping down. You can ask your driver to drop you at the temple and pick you up from the kullu side.

Overall a beautiful sight with no crowd and unnecessary noise.

“Must Visit !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

I love this temple. We had to trek for an hour to reach the temple from where we parked our car. Best scenic location. Peaceful. Beautiful is not the word. I just loved this place. Its worth the effort and though trek could be little tiring, but one can sit at small cafes on the way. The best is to leave early morning to reach here to avoid the traffic. You could see the entire Kullu from here.

“Spectacular.....Truely Heavenly Experience !!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

this pplace is around 15 kms from kullu.the vehicles i.e.buses/rented cars stop at a village.from there u have to trek on your own.mostly it is steps;they say around 900 steps a total distance of around 2.5-3 kms u have to cover by walking.let me tell u the trek isn't easy.it took us around 2-2.30 hrs to get to the spot.we started at around 2pm.u should start the trek early to spend more time up there.though i m not in my best shape n was acompanied by 2 ladies,2hr 30 mins seems quite a lot of time, but we came to know abt ppl taking 4hrs to get there.for a very fit guy in his youth 1.30hrs will be a great timing, believe me or not the locals take 45mins for the task !!! on the way u get few shops selling snacks, water, but the best purpose it serves as halting palces !! good if u can take water n eatables along, but dont burden yourself too much.travel light, wearing comfortable shoes, glasses, caps (if reqd).after reaching there do darshan of Bijli Mahadev ji. then proceed for the back side of temple.n believe me folks the view will blow u away.its spactacular....amazing !!! u will be thrilled n slightly frightened too...the experience can not be penned down !!! among the most beautiful places i have ever seen, n believe me i have travelled quite extensively n India n abroad too !!i m even excited now writing about it....please go there n treat yourself with a heavenly experience !!!

good for people who enjoy hiking & trekking - breath taking views once u reach the top. We can see panaromic view of the kullu valley, the convergence of rivers parbati & beas, and the runway at bhuntar airport. The road access is upto a certain point & from thre its about a 3km trek to the top.

You can drive up to a point and then trek up the hill and could take easily an hour or more depending your stamina to climb up. There are no signages only a half prepared track which is steep at places. More work could be done to improve the climbing steps/ tracks. It is a spectacular view from top, there is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and the locals people speak a lot about the place. Temple was very simple but impressive. Once you are up then you would realise how cold it is as your hands and feet start getting cold, so you need to prepare for this. After you have the Lord Shiva darshan and on your way back there are small stalls which sell tea, maggi and other stuff, hot tea was welcome in the freezing weather. You can have awesome view of kullu valley, can see the Bhunter airport from here. Overall a good trekking and nice view of Kullu valley.
