“Relaxing and enjoyable stay”
Reviewed 10 July 2009

This was our second trip to the Geneva Lodge. My husband surprised me in December with an overnight stay to celebrate my birthday. We loved it so much, we reserved the same room for three nights in July. I checked on our reservation a few days before we left for our trip and even added an extra day. We arrived to check in and were told we could not have the room we reserved. In tears, I walked away and my husband attended to the matter. Well, they did give us the room we requested SEVEN months in advance. All was well. They did apologize and even called the room to make sure we were happy. We had a lovely time just relaxing and enjoying the lake views. Visited a winery and walked around the little boardwalk. We treated ourselves to a dinner at the Horizons restaurant. We had a lovely dinner there in December. The restaurant left a few things to be desired. The food was not nearly as good as in December. I had pasta which was cold. Hubby had the ribs, which he didn't even finish. We did however enjoy the crab cakes. Yummy. For the price..........not worth it. The waite staff was not up to standards for a restaurant with those prices. The hotel staff were nice, but didn't really excede my expectations. They perhaps could be updated on customer service skills.
I would love to visit again, but will call ahead to avoid being upset over the room I request.

We stayed overnight in a lakeview room which had a decent view. The hotel is in close proximity to several local wineries and the staff is very helpful in making recommendations. We enjoyed the large hot tub in the pool area and had excellent meals in the onsite restaurant. We plan to return at least once a year. It is the perfect place to have a one or two night romantic getaway.

We had a great time at the Lodge. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We forgot toothpaste and they opened the gift shop up so I could buy some. There are many family fun activities to do in the area. Saturay night we started off at the Firehouse Winery and finished up at Jewel's, that is a country bar about 20 miutes away. Sunday we ate breakfast then played some Putt-Putt. Many of the attractions are within walking distance. The only negative is the Lodge is pretty expensive, breakfast should be included in the fee. If that was the case it would have been a bargin. The rooms are very nice, clean and has a cabin feel.

We stayed in room 221 for a Friday, Saturday church conference at the hotel. We had 2 double beds. I didn't think hotels offered just a double bed (we always had two queens at other places we stayed.) It was too small and too hard for us. We ended up sleeping in separate beds. After 28 years of marriage, we didn't want to do that! This room had a nice view of Lake Erie. I would recommend getting this room in the summer for the sunset views. There are no tables and chairs in the room (but on the balcony there are.) The room was very clean. It did have a desk.
The shower head was one inch in diameter (I measured it) - and water trickles out of it. But have your ever stayed in a hotel with good showers?
The room has soft lighting and soft colors - we liked that. The website doesn't list the ammenities so here they are: hair dryer, shower cap, coffee w/decaff too, ironing stuff, shampoo/conditioner in one, hand cream, and Kleenex. There is a generous supply of towels and more in the pool area.
Speaking of the pool - in January it was warm and inviting with sea gulls flying overhead. This place has a new outdoor pool for the summer months.
The public areas were cold - even the big fire place in the lobby did not heat things up. The public places were very clean and beautiful. The staff took care of our needs (esp. in the meeting rooms.)
Meeting rooms: good size for our needs. The staff was efficient and the beverages were well stocked. The room did not get stuffy even with 42 people in it. The room was clean and well decorated. No problems
Our hotel catered lunch had great sandwiches with a good selection of breads. The salads (potato and cole slaw) were too saucy and did not look appetizing.
We did not eat in the hotel's restaurant. It was too pricy for us. We brought our own subs in a cooler and here's a hint: there is a microwave by the pop/snack machines in the pool area.

We had such a wonderful time we are returning again this year. The fireplace in the lobby is spectacular and it's very comfortable to lounge there. The store is cute and quaint. Dining in Horizons at sunset was spectacular with its picture windows overlooking the lake, and we watched a lawn wedding as we ate. Overall, it was a peaceful and refreshing mini vacation.

  • Liked — That it was peaceful at the time we came (October) and we didn't have to deal with screaming kids

We stayed here in a premium lake front room for our second anniversary. This was our second trip to the lodge, the first being soon after it opened. Our anniversary was the Sunday night before Labor Day. We had a wonderful dinner at the restaurant, although it was a bit expensive.
Since our last visit to the inn an outdoor pool was added. We enjoyed using the pool but our premium lake view room overlooked the pool with the lake in the distance! The dog friendly rooms were right below Room 263 where we stayed as well. Not quite what we were expecting for a premium room! There are a limited amount of king rooms at the lodge with a balcony and directly facing the water so we did not ask for a new room. I have to wonder if the other wing of the hotel, even though not direct lake view would have been more relaxing and adult oriented!
The front desk, gift shop and restaurant staff were friendly and personable.
The bed cover was worn and the pillows were very hard. It is time for both to be updated. When it came time to check out there were no carts available even though we checked several times.
The lodge caters to an adult crowd who are there for relaxation and the local wineries but also to families who are there for the state park.
We will stay again but I hope that they offer a king room with a nice water view in the west wing of the lodge. Hopefully a playground will not built there!
Overall, I rate location as 5, the common areas at 5, staff at 4. room at 3, bedding at 2.

Booked a Deluxe King Accessible Room. Was disappointed to see the only thing in the room that would possibly make it an accessible room was a handle bar in the shower. My wife had to use a chair to help pull herself off the toilet. We stayed two nights and had a great meal and service the first night, but the second night, the bar had only one person to serve 3 full tables and a full bar with food and drinks. That person also was responsible for providing bar service for the restaurant. Also, the next morning, the restaurant had a breakfast buffet. Unforturnately, the egg station was empty when we went to the buffet to fill our plates. Was told that it would be a "few" minutes for the eggs to come out of the kitchen. We waited 15 minutes, went back to the buffet and the eggs, pancakes, and hash browns were empty. We decided to hit McDonalds on the way home. The pool was nice and the sunsets were spectacular and had a great time visiting some of the local wineries. To pay $180 per night and have subpar service at the restaurant was unfortunate.

  • Liked — access to Lake Erie and local wineries
  • Disliked — food service
