If u r a person who thinks too much then u shall look at the numbers and say, so many butterflies have been caught and framed. But it is an amazing collection of the butterflies of all the varieties.
The leaf Butterflies will let your jaw drop and the size of moths and beetles is something zi had never seen.

Yu must ignore the attitude of the lady who manages the place which was set up by her parents and appreciate her ability to maintain and sustain this.
She will also ask for Rs.10 per frame for clicking pictures.
Enjoy.

Thousands of insects put together in that one small room .. its a private place .. when we went no one else was there apart from us .. but the collection of butterflies and moths is fabulous .. if you are an insect lover then don't miss it .. however if you are not, you should better skip it .. its around 1.5km from police bazaar (centre point) .. you can walk from the market and reach here .. or take an autorickshaw for Rs. 150-200

The WANKHAR MEMORIAL MUSEUM OF ENTOMOLOGY is not just about butterflies. It is the lifetime collection of Late Mr SK Sircar and his son Late Mr D Wankhar, now maintained and managed by son-in-law Mr Dawling. Yje single hall numerous glass-case museum houses various insect species typical of North East India. Bugs, Beetles, Moths, Spiders and yes Butterflies. Located in the basement of a private bungalow, this collection is governed by strict timings and etiquette. Over and above the Rs 50 (100 for overseas guests) fees you are charged Rs 10 per snapshot. No tab is kept on the visitor but the inclination to cheat for a mere 10 or 20 chips just does not happen. The exhibits are so overwhelming....I have no words to describe. So visit 11 am to 4 pm monday to saturday and AVOID REGRETTING LATER.

The collection of butterflies, moths, beetles may peeve some folks...but if you are a fan of anything related to Entomology..you may be in for a treat! Mr.Sircar's collection is commendable and his attempt to preserve and share his findings more so! Be prepared to pay Rs.10/- per picture you click...but, hey...all so worth it!!
