Pretty organised place. You can see signs of concrete jungle taking over. It is a huge market for the localites and also tourists

“TIMES square of Shillong :-)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2013 via mobile

Its Shillongs heartbeat not just a bazar.

It wakes up early with the old chai shops in the inner lanes, the chai puri roadside sellers at the rotary, taxi n bus operators fishing for early riders to Guwahati and ofcourse the health conscious walkers. Slowly they are joined by school uniforms in march, office goers and finally the lazy tourists for their last minute shopping.

By 10 in the morning the place gets crowded and reaches its peack during early evening by becoming a sober version of Pattayas walking street or you can say the crowed gets kinda Mumbai local or Kolkata street during Durga puja. Basically you dont have to walk but shall be pushed left and right and so on. The flow is amazing and worth the hassle. Just the way i enjoy the emptyness of early morning the crowded moments have its own rhythem too.

What is a bazar? Yes a market. So you get in PB what you would in any market street anywhere right. But the diffrence here is the crowed the vibe the over all atmosphare. Young old, local tourist, rich poor, shabby or fashionistas, begger seller, pick pocketer cops they all co exist here in harmony.

Be it breakfast be it lunch be it dinner PB has enough restaurents around from basic bhat dal sabzi to Chinese tandoor etc viz Baba Lodge, Hong Kong restaurent, Lamee, Bombay Bytes etc.

Late nights there appears a young and hip party crowed as well to shake a doom at Cloud Nine or the many bars around.

Its definately not a place to rest or have a good nights sleep but a place to get lost, to blend in, to let go, let loose, forget and just be a Shillongite for as long as the walks last.

The sound, the smell, the sights, the air its no magical yet captivating to pull you back to Police bazar again and again and again till you can take your last journey and last walk.

PB rulz and shall forever.

“just a local bazar”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2013

Nothing special, just a local bazar where locals are selling their produce. We saw some specimen of local fruits which only grow in cool climate like peaches and plums, although their quality was not that good.

“Main shopping district for Shillong”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2013

Plenty of shops lining a series of streets closed to traffic. Quite busy in the evenings, but deserted in the early mornings. Worth a look.
